When shopping online, you can earn a bonus when using a shopping portal. While you can earn cashback or points for most websites, there’s one site you’ll rarely see on a portal; Amazon.com.
Since it’s the king of online shopping sites, Amazon doesn’t need to pay bonuses for people to use its site. That wasn’t always the case, as until 2018 you could earn JetBlue points by shopping with Amazon.com through the TrueBlue portal. While that bonus is long gone, a part of the offer remains to this day.
That is, if you can get it to work.
You can earn 3 JetBlue points per dollar for Amazon.com purchases made when onboard a JetBlue flight and connected to the inflight Wi-Fi.
There are plenty of restrictions to the offer. Points cannot be earned if:
- The Amazon banner ad in the Fly-Fi portal is not clicked.
- You’re shopping through an Amazon mobile app. Only purchases completed through your device browser are eligible for points.
- You do not have a TrueBlue account.
- You complete a purchase with items added to your Amazon shopping cart before your flight and connect to Fly-Fi.
- If you redirect another person’s purchases from Amazon into your unique link or TrueBlue account, or use any other means to obtain TrueBlue points other than those outlined above.
- If JetBlue determines in its sole discretion that points were obtained through fraud, misrepresentation, abuse, improper conduct, or violation of rules or terms of service.
To earn points, log into the Fly-Fi and click on the Amazon banner ad. You can’t purchase things already in your cart, meaning you need to shop for and buy the items during the flight.
While it’s already a hassle to earn 3X points, there’s one additional problem. I haven’t been able to log into my TrueBlue account on my last several flights with JetBlue.
Once I turn on my Wi-Fi and connect to the network, I open my browser and go to the Fly-Fi website.
From there, I entered my name and email linked to my JetBlue account. After a few minutes of a spinning wheel, I get this message telling me the systems are down.
While I can’t log into my account, I can still use the internet. But I’m not able to earn points by shopping with Amazon.com.
There’s no way around this problem. If you can’t log into your TrueBlue account, you can’t earn points with Amazon purchases—end of story.
I tried several times on multiple flights and always got the same response. Sharon tried on her phone with her account, and the same thing happened.
I can’t say for sure, but not letting passengers log into their TrueBlue account when on JetBlue flights seems to be an easy way to keep from paying out bonus miles for Amazon purchases.
It just seems a bit fishy to me.
