Outrigger Hospitality Group has agreed to purchase the Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel on Maui. The resort opened in 1962 and is located on Kā‘anapali Beach, recently named the best beach in the United States and the #10 beach in the world by TripAdvisor. (We’ve been to the #3 beach, which was incredible.) The deal will close on July 26th when the hotel will be renamed the Outrigger Ka’anapali Beach Resort and become the company’s first full-service resort on Maui.
The 432-room property recently finished a $75 million renovation project of two of the hotel’s wings and the addition of a beachside restaurant. Outrigger announced they would continue the renovations by working on two additional hotel towers, the courtyard and lobby, which were not changed in the recent updates.
Jeff Wagoner, president and CEO of Outrigger Hospitality Group, said this about the Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel.
“With its pristine location along a three-mile stretch of sand, deep cultural connections and authentic Hawaiian hospitality, Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel has tremendous synergy with the OUTRIGGER brand; we are honored for the opportunity to become stewards of this coveted property,” Wagoner added. “Our intention, once the sale is finalized, is to craft a thoughtful plan to further enhance the resort grounds while retaining unique attributes that guests have cherished for years.”
Outrigger has been on a roll acquiring several properties in Hawaii and worldwide. In the past 2 years, the Hawaii-based chain purchased the Kona Resort & Spa, three locations in Thailand, and a 5-star resort in The Maldives.
They’ve also been updating their existing properties, including adding a Cirque du Soleil show at the Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber.
Outrigger has a loyalty program called Outrigger DISCOVERY. The program is interesting because it is part of the much larger GHA DISCOVERY program. Including 40+ hotel brands and over 800 hotels worldwide, GHA DISCOVERY won the 210 Award in Europe/Africa and Middle East& Asia/Oceania regions. This award is for up-and-coming programs that rated highly but did not get at least 10% of votes in a category.
