Alaska Airlines Flyers Now Get Perks With CLEAR

by joeheg

CLEAR offers a quicker trip through airport security to those who enroll and provide their biometric data. By skipping the ID verification at the TSA checkpoint, you’re supposed to get through security faster, although this isn’t necessarily true at all airports.

The yearly price for CLEAR is $189, but there’s no reason to pay full price as discounts are available for being a member of several airline frequent flyer programs. Delta and United loyalty members and co-brand credit cardholders get discounts and top-level flyers get free CLEAR memberships.

Alaska Airlines is the newest carrier to partner with CLEAR and their offer differs slightly from the other two airlines. Here’s the offer as detailed in a press release from Alaska Airlines and CLEAR.

All Mileage Plan members can enroll in CLEAR Plus at a discounted rate of $179 a year at clearme.com/alaska. Plus our elite Mileage Plan members – MVP, MVP Gold, MVP Gold 75K and MVP Gold 100K – who enroll will receive 1,500 Mileage Plan bonus miles. Elite Mileage Plan members who renew an existing CLEAR Plus membership and link it to their Mileage Plan account will receive a total of 1,250 miles every year upon renewal.

Alaska Mileage Plan members get the same $179 rate as Delta and United loyalty members. The difference comes with the benefits to elite Mileage Plan members. While other airlines offer a reduced price, Alaska elite members will earn 1,500 miles if they’re new CLEAR members. Existing CLEAR members will get 1,250 Mileage Plus miles when renewing their CLEAR membership.

If you’re an Alaska MVP Gold 100K member, it might sting a bit to know that a Delta Diamond member gets CLEAR for free but you still have to pay $179. If you have a Delta or United co-brand credit card, you have to decide if it’s better to pay $149 or pay $179 and get the 1,250 bonus Alaska miles.

CLEAR only allows you to connect one airline program to your account, so consider the options before linking your Alaska, Delta or United account to your membership.
