Randy Travis is a country music icon. He’s known for songs such as “1982,” “On the Other Hand,” “Three Wooden Crosses,” “I Told You So,” “Diggin’ Up Bones,” and the iconic “Forever And Ever, Amen.” From the mid-1980s onward, the 64-year-old country music and gospel music singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actor has won multiple awards from the Country Music Association, American Music Awards, the Grammys, Academy of Country Music, Billboard Music Awards and People’s Choice.
“During a 25-year recording career, Travis became known as the epitome of what country music should sound like,” Billy Dukes, from Taste of Country once said of the musical icon.
In 2013, Travis had a massive stroke that robbed him of much of the use of his right side, as well as, tragically, his singing voice (the stroke left him with aphasia, which makes speaking – and sometimes understanding – speech difficult). However he still makes personal appearances, his legacy continues, and he still has millions of fans.
Not long ago, Travis was on a Southwest flight out of Nashville Int’l Airport. As luck would have it, many of the flight crew were fans. When they realized they had the Country Music Hall of Famer on the flight, they decided to play some of his hit songs while passengers boarded the plane.
Travis was in the first row of the plane, which meant he had one of the best views of the flight attendants as they did their safety demonstration. But they did that safety demonstration like no other. In fact, it was more like a “safety dance” (no offense, Men Without Hats), and Travis appeared to be enjoying it immensely. Here’s a video that someone on the other side of the plane posted of the moment:
@adeel.mitha @Randy Travis is an American icon! It was so amazing to see the @Southwest Airlines crew treat him with so much respect! #culture #icon #randytravis #flight #acmawards #countrymusic #legend
The person who posted the video also included the original footage, without the Randy Travis music in the background:
@adeel.mitha Replying to @Nikki @Southwest Airlines and @Randy Travis are as American as things can get!
It seemed like a fun moment and I’m glad Randy Travis seemed to be enjoying himself.
