I admit that I’ve been lax about checking our AMEX Offers. While these targeted offers are a great way to make back the money you pay American Express for annual fees, I haven’t received the most lucrative ones for a while. Even the ones that show up in our accounts which appear to be great at first look have restrictions that made them too difficult to take advantage of.
I think that’s why I passed on a Delta offer that showed up in some accounts this March.
At face value that’s a 25% discount on Delta Air Lines. When I checked back to see if anyone covered this, I found many posts including this one on Frequent Miler.
The reason I didn’t look into the offer at the time was a particularly bothersome restriction.
- Eligible flights must be booked as non-stop, round trip (no connections) in order to qualify.
I didn’t have any flights at the time which met that requirement. Even though we’ve since booked a round trip on Delta, it required a connection in Atlanta.
Luckily, I was checking our AMEX accounts when I received an email about a different offer that was available. When I was reading the offer, there was no mention of requiring non-stop or round trip flights. I read the terms several times and can not see any such language on the website.
While initial reports were that the offer was limited, I received it on my AMEX Platinum and Sharon received the same offer on her AMEX Green card.
The offer expires on June 30, 2023, so I’m going to have to find where we can spend $600 on Delta flights in the next week. I might have to book some speculative flights. If I need to change or cancel them, I’ll get a Delta credit which I’ll need to use within a year of purchasing the original ticket.
We’ve been traveling on Delta regularly over the past year so that shouldn’t be a problem.
If you initially slept on this offer as I did, it might be worthwhile to check your AMEX accounts.
Here is the entire text from the offer. I’ve read it multiple times but nowhere can I find the round-trip or non-stop language.
