My favorite thing about my Discover card is the quarterly 5% cash back offered in rotating categories. Cardholders can earn up to $75 back every quarter by spending in select categories. The tricky part is that you need to register your card every three months to take advantage of the offer. It’s not difficult and Discover even sends an email with a link where you can register in one click.
Depending on the categories, I may max the offer out over one quarter and not use it at all the next. For example, I didn’t use my Discover when the bonus categories were restaurant and wholesale clubs because I can earn more than 5% at restaurants. We only went to a wholesale club twice (and I had forgotten about the offer).
However, I will quickly max out the offer for this quarter from July-September. That’s because this quarter’s categories are Gas Stations and Digital Wallets.
I’ll keep using my Wyndham Earner Business card at gas stations but I’ll take advantage of the Digital Wallet category.
Digital Wallet purchases include some online purchases and some in-store purchases made with your smartphone, tablet, or wearable. Wallets that qualify include Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Garmin Pay and in store with Google Pay. Apple Pay transactions included in this offer are transactions made in-store or online when using the Apple Pay button
This will come in handy for any purchase not covered by a bonus category (supermarket, gas station, restaurant.) Most credit card readers accept mobile payments so I can use Apple Pay to earn 5% back.
Remember to register as purchases made before registering do not count.
How else can you earn an easy $75 from a card with no annual fee?
