3 Men Who Missed Flight Arrested For Trying To Break Onto Plane

A tale of what NOT to do if you've missed your flight

by SharonKurheg

It’s happened to the best of us. You overslept. There’s traffic. You didn’t give yourself enough time to negotiate the airport (here’s a guide for how early YOU should arrive at the airport). Heck, Joe and I almost missed our flight at LAX because of the interterminal bus.

There’s plenty you can do (stuff like this) if you might miss your connecting flight. There are even things you can do if you actually miss your flight. But this piece is about what NOT to do if you’ve missed it.

Three men, a father and his two sons, were arrested on Tuesday because of the lengths they took to try to get onto their flight, which they had just missed.

The trio of Israeli men were at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW) and apparently arrived at their gate after the plane’s doors had closed and the plane was backing away. Their unconventional response was to break into the boarding bridge and at least one family member leaped off the end of the bridge and onto the runway, in an attempt to catch the plane.

Local Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak obtained footage:

The men were reportedly arrested by airport security and taken to a local police station.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed it was aware of the incident and that the Israeli consulate in Istanbul was dealing with it.

As I said, it was most definitely what NOT to do if you’ve missed your flight. Dummies…
