I’m planning a 2024 trip to London and I need somewhere to stay. There’s one big difference from my usual plans which is causing me some difficulty. Unlike most trips, I’ll be taking this trip solo. I don’t have to think about many of the restrictions for our usual hotel stays.
When traveling together, I try to make it a little easier for Sharon. I try to find a hotel close to an airport connection (depending on if we’re flying from Heathrow or Gatwick). If we need to transfer, I try to find tube stops with elevators (or I’ll have to carry our luggage up the stairs).
I don’t have to worry about any of those things on this trip. I’m open to anything. What’s the best value hotel with points? The best luxury hotel? The most convenient hotel to multiple tube lines. Which hotels can you book with free nights from IHG, Hyatt, Marriott, Wyndham or Accor? The best boutique hotel. Your go-to London spot.
I have free reign to stay wherever I want. I want to take advantage of the opportunity and stay somewhere I wouldn’t otherwise visit.
Where do you stay in London and why?

I have 3 places that I like: -Near the V&A Museum, lovely for a solo trip, walking distance to Harrods: https://egertonhousehotel.com/
-Fabulous if you want to spend the money: London at Ten Trinity Square (near the Tower of London)
-Across the street from the Tube- also very nice – Conrad London
I also like the Belmond Cadogan and the Langham, however, I would do the Conrad/Egerton first. Ahh, and the Trafalgar St. James London is in a lively area, but the rooms were very small.
Andaz Liverpool Street. Great Location, etc., and served by the best and most modern tube line: The Elizabeth. The Elizabeth line is the best one for accessing the ‘lift’. Avoid taking Heathrow Express, Central, Metropolitan, Circle lines if you want to use the lift
My go-to hotel in London used to be the Hotel Montana near Gloucester Road. The last trip to London, I stayed at The Edition, which is far fancier than the Montana.
The Radisson Blu Edwardian New Providence Wharf Hotel and The Bentley have been used as film locations for the TV show Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
That Radisson might be convenient if you wanted to stay near Greenwich or the Docklands.
How about the Best Western Mornington Hotel in Lancaster Gate, which is close to the hotel that had ants and featured in a past article on YMMV? Location wise, that is convenient for many trips.
We will be in a similar situation — arriving into Gatwick one day and flying out of LHR the next morning. Based on research of measurements using Google maps, I decided that Intercontinental London Park Lane is sufficiently convenient to both while being in a good central location. But it’s a lot of points (102,000) next July. So I’d love to find a better alternative.
For us the convenience of Hilton at Paddington can’t be beat, coming in from Heathrow and usually leaving to the Southwest by train.
Traveling alone, I have stayed at hub by Premier Inn London King’s Cross hotel. Smallest, most organized room I ever stayed in.
HIX Southwark. It’s close to Globe Theater, Tate Modern, Millennium Bridge and other attractions along the Thames.
