American Airlines’ CEO Is Getting SKEWERED on Wikipedia

by SharonKurheg

Wikipedia is a free-content online encyclopedia, written and maintained by a community of volunteers, collectively known as Wikipedians, through open collaboration and the use of wiki-based editing system MediaWiki. Wikipedia is the largest and most-read reference work in history. (thanks, Wikipedia!)

Because it’s written and maintained by the community at large, there’s nothing stopping people from, shall we say, hijinx, here and there. Case in point:

The flight attendants for American Airlines were recently informed they will only be receiving 1.1% profit sharing this year. Not only have other airlines paid significantly more (Delta’s profit share for 2023 was 10.3%; United’s was 9.1%), but it was in the wake of the carrier reporting a revenue of approximately $53 billion, along with income of $822 million, for 2023 – a record for American.

On top of this, AA’s flight attendants have been pressing to go on strike due to contract negotiation problems regarding a pay raise.

So now they – or someone – has taken to Wikipedia. There’s currently a new update to the entry for American Airlines’ CEO, Robert Isom:

Robert Isom, (born 1967[1]) is an American businessman and current CEO of the American Airlines Group and its subsidiary American Airlines.[2] He previously served as president of the airline from 2016 to 2022. He refuses to give flight attendants living wages.

BUUUURRRRNNNN….!

UPDATE: Not long afterwards, the entry got changed to, “Will not negotiate fairly with flight attendants.” But still…

UPDATE #2: It’s gone. Well, at least for now.

This goes to show the level of maturity of the union members he’s dealing with. FA’s can complain and shout insults all they want, but at the end of the day they only have APFA leadership to blame for not getting a deal done.

It’s a shame it even had to come to this, though.

Those flight attendants have seen all other major work groups receive a new contract with much higher pay (especially the pilots who essentially endure the same work day & scheduling conditions). Those same flight attendants continue to receive new responsibilities like “Teams”….responsibilities that happen during UNPAID time. Those same flight attendants and their union have been begging American and the government to step up and provide what’s right. Flight Attendants can’t engage in “Self-Help” so they’re options are limited. Blame corporate greed.

Wikipedia also has anonymous teens who vote for each other to become administrators. There, they can have fun banning people. After awhile, they can get rights to more access and hack you. There has been cases of this happening. Wild!
