Reminder: ATL’s New Entry System Has Begun

by SharonKurheg

Friendly reminder that Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has updated its entry system, effective Monday, April 22nd.

In 2018, ATL began a policy of limiting access to the facility between 11 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. At the time it was to decrease the number of homeless sleeping in the airport overnight.

The new program worked, at least for the convenience of people who didn’t want homeless people sleeping in the airport. (for the homeless people looking for more safety and shelter than what they could find outdoors? Probably not so much. But for most people with homes, it’s easy to say, “Do something about the homeless in our city!” For the caring souls who are trying to do that? It’s not as simple as it seems)

New restrictions

The airport has still had its share of problems in recent years, from bags being stolen from baggage claim to unauthorized drivers soliciting passengers. So, the City Council voted in February to only make the airport accessible to ticketed passengers, those meeting or greeting passengers, those employed at the airport, and those with business there.

The new restrictions went into effect yesterday and will also apply to the ATL Sky Train, the car rental center and the parking decks.

There were questions regarding how this new rule would be enforced. But it’s noted that there have been no news reports of difficulties at the airport since the new policy went into effect yesterday.
