From TSA to MSG: How CLEAR Made Our Concert Experience Better

by joeheg

Most of the people who pay for CLEAR, or who get it for free from a credit card or by having top-tier airline status, mainly use it to get through the TSA checkpoint at the airport faster. But did you know that, in the midst of all the diversifying CLEAR’s done, there’s another use for your CLEAR membership that can save you even more time?

CLEAR Entrances At Stadiums and Arenas

Besides airports, CLEAR can also speed you through the security lines at major sporting events and concerts. For example, we just returned from seeing one of the last shows of Billy Joel’s record-setting residency at Madison Square Garden.

Before the show, we received an email about the rules for attending the concert, including what you were allowed to bring into the arena. However, what caught my eye was this small banner ad about CLEAR.

According to the CLEAR website, members can enter through either the B or C entrances.

CLEAR Lanes are available at all Rangers and Knicks home games, concerts, and events.

I found Entrance B to Madison Square Garden, so we headed there. There was a bit of a line when we arrived, but it wasn’t too bad.

Once she spoke to the CLEAR guy, she waved me out of the regular line to come to the separate CLEAR entrance.

How to Use CLEAR For Concerts and Sporting Events

The key to using the CLEAR lane at concerts and sporting events is having the CLEAR app. Once logged into the app, there’s a section for arenas and stadiums. CLEAR confirms your identity by taking your picture with your phone camera (remember that CLEAR already has your picture on file from the airport). Once your identity is confirmed, you’ll receive a QR code that will allow you to enter the event.

The CLEAR representatives at Madison Square Garden scanned the code from our phone, and we were set to go. We ended up being the fourth in line to enter the arena, which was amazing because there were no lines for merchandise, food, or drinks. We even were able to get sandwiches from the Carnegie Deli outpost inside MSG before the show.

Final Thought

We signed up for CLEAR because it helps us get through the security line faster at some airports. I never thought that skipping the line at major sporting events and concerts would be more helpful. In New York alone, CLEAR has special lanes at Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium and the Barclays Center. To see all the places where CLEAR can speed you through the line, check out the list on their website.

Billy Joel has a few shows left at MSG; we may have tickets for another show. More on how we were able to score some of the hottest tickets in NY (Spoiler: it has to do with having a Citi card). On our next visit, we’re going to use the CLEAR lanes to get in before everyone else.
