Double Digit Devaluation of Frontier’s Unlimited Flight Pass

by SharonKurheg

In late 2022, Frontier Airlines introduced their GoWild! pass. The pass allows the purchaser unlimited flights for fares as low as 1 cent (plus taxes and fees). It seemed too good to be true, and people discovered that it often was not such a great deal.

True, if you took the time to thoroughly understand the program, and weren’t picky about where and when you flew, you very well could get some flights that were dirt cheap (even cheaper than what an ultra low cost carrier would typically charge anyway. I mean, you can often get flights on Frontier for $19).

Pass Prices

Over time, Frontier has played games with the pricing of the GoWild! pass. They’ve varied how long the pass is good for (a month, 3 months, 6 months, a “summer season,” a full year, etc.), and, with that, how much it’s cost has varied. It’s been $1,999, $900, $600, $400 and the current price is $300 for 6 months and $600 for a year (with automatic renewal rates of $400 and $600, respectively). There are also monthly and summer pass options.

Problems in Pass Paradise

However Frontier apparently just flipped the bird to their loyal GoWild! customers. They just announced that they’re cutting a full 43 routes in the next 2 weeks:

So if you lived in New Orleans and purposely got a GoWild! pass so you could visit your parents in Cleveland as much as you wanted, effective August 12th, you’ll be out of luck. Or if you were a Kansas City native and got a pass because you loved flying to Cancun, you’ll have to pay for tickets on another airline from August 13th onward. And you Disney fans in Columbus, Memphis, Minneapolis and Pittsburgh who go their GoWild! pass to go back and forth to Orlando? That route got cut immediately. Whomp whomp.

Hello, Devaluation!

So yeah…out of roughly 400 routes available to the GoWild! pass, they just cut 43 of them. That’s over 10%. Did they cut the price of their GoWild! pass by 10%? I don’t think so.

I’m Just Here For The The Comments

In case you think people who already have a GoWild! pass haven’t noticed this update, you’d be wrong. There’s a public Facebook group for the program’s fans. I just go there to read the comments. These are paraphrased, but you get the gist:

  • We had 7 bajillion flights from these cities to these countries and now we have none. And thank-you for purchasing your GoWild! pass.
  • MCI-CUN was my reason to get their GoWild! all-you-can-fly thing. Guess I won’t renew that anymore.
  • They let me book until October and then canceled over half of the ones I booked because of their dropped/changed routes.
  • They really should allow us to cancel our annual membership if it doesn’t work for all of us anymore. (Note: Apparently if you hadn’t used your GoWild pass yet, you could get a refund. Otherwise, too bad, so sad)
  • What is happening with GRB (Green Bay)? There are ZERO inbound or outbound flights after 8/12/24. (can you imagine being a GoWild! passholder living there and now there are NO flights out of your home city???)

What a rip off.

It seemed pretty obvious this could happen. Frontier is always adding & cutting routes, so the pass only made sense if you were 100% flexible in your travel goals + you lived at a Frontier hub.
