Woman Discovers Truth About Varying Plane Temperature Based on Seat Location

by SharonKurheg

Sometimes a person discovers something new and it’s a whole new world for them. They reach out on social media and people like it. They share it. It goes viral. It teaches thousands, if not millions of people something they didn’t know before.

And sometimes a person discovers something new and it turns out they were 100% wrong. And you know what? Whomp whomp, poop happens. The ones with a healthy sense of self-esteem can laugh at themselves. The strongest of those share their mistake with others, so they can laugh with them.

The following is a story of the latter.

Bianka’s story

Bianka Knowles lives in Whitby, in the Canadian province of Ontario. She had to go on a work trip to New York last month and flew home on Air Canada from LaGuardia to Toronto.

“It was late at night and I was returning from a work trip so I was pretty tired,” Knowles said in an interview.

She continued: “I was glancing at my neighbor’s screen showing 27C in the corner and noticed the screen for the person in front of his seat showed 26C. The screensaver was a bright nature scenery, so I had assumed it was the outdoor or the destination temperature.”

Wait, the temperature in the cabin changed from one seat to another?

Knowles explained: “My first thought glancing back and forth was immediate confusion as to why it would be showing differently. My second thought was—also tainted by my fatigue—that ‘wow, it seemed to be a pretty warm temperature,’ which was odd for that time of year. It had been warm the last few days but I was surprised given it was also evening hours.” (26 degrees centigrade is about 79 degrees Fahrenheit)

And then she realized what the numbers meant.

Here’s the video she posted on TikTok:

It took a while until she realized that 26C and 27C weren’t temperatures but seat numbers.

Once Knowles discovered her mistake, she was a totally good sport about it. She had no problem posting it on TikTok so she could share the hilarity with the world.

Some of the comments to the video were pretty funny, too…

  • For those confused the seat up front is farther away from the equator which is why it’s colder — nikoniko
  • It’s pretty cold at the front 1C. — Papa50
  • The window seat on the other side gets fahrenheight 😂 — Nay Nay
  • Omg I literally was like “the 1 degree higher is because the person farted” ☠️☠️ — em
  • bwa ha ha ha ha that is something I would have done !!! I once checked in for a flight departing at 2023 only to discover that the flight had left and I was reading the year as the time 😂🙄 — aye
  • I like to sit where the temp is between 1C and 6C. — ItCouldBeMe
  • me, heat rises ? and the planes facing more down 😂😂 — MrsBridgen

“It took me a minute” was a common comment, as well. So if it was any solace to Knowles (or you, LOL), there were plenty of people who thought the exact same thing, at first.
