In this hobby, there are many aspirational travel goals—whether staying in an overwater villa in the Maldives or taking a shower in an A380. These are the experiences we read about, dream about, and sometimes spend years collecting points and planning for. But no matter how many reviews you read or pictures you see, nothing compares to experiencing those moments for yourself.
Finding Joy in the Journey
For me, these moments come in different shapes and sizes. Some are planned, like our flight on a Singapore Airlines A380 from New York to Frankfurt, and others are surprises along the way, like discovering an amazing “hidden” waterfall in Iceland. Each one brings a level of excitement and joy that keeps me passionate about traveling.
A Memorable Stop at Changi Airport
When my wife Sharon and I flew from Singapore to San Francisco, it was one of those truly unforgettable experiences. Staying at Changi Airport the night before our flight allowed us to visit Jewel and see the spectacular Rain Vortex. It was a sight we had read so much about, but nothing compared to seeing it in person.
Before the flight, we spent time at the Butterfly Garden, marveling at its peaceful beauty, before relaxing in the SilverKris Lounge. The calm atmosphere gave us the perfect chance to recharge and prepare for the journey ahead.
Lobster at 35,000 Feet
Once onboard, I finally got to try the iconic lobster thermidor, and it was every bit as amazing as I’d hoped.
From the incredible meal to the exceptional service, Singapore Airlines exceeded our expectations yet again. The comfort of the flight made the long-haul journey fly by, and even though it wasn’t my first time flying with them, it still felt special.
Appreciating Every Travel Milestone
While I still haven’t taken a shower in the sky or booked a once-in-a-lifetime luxury like Singapore Suites, even a “regular” business class or lounge visit can feel just as extraordinary. These are the moments where you stop comparing and start appreciating.
Whether it’s your first time flying in domestic first class, snagging an upgrade to a suite at a hotel, or simply relaxing in an airport lounge for the first time, every milestone is worth celebrating. It’s not about checking boxes on a list—it’s about enjoying the journey.
Cherishing the Special Moments
For me, I’ll never forget the excitement of sitting down to enjoy lobster thermidor at 35,000 feet, having my seat transformed into a comfortable bed, or watching Jewel’s Rain Vortex light up the evening from the Canopy Bridge.
Let’s celebrate each other’s wins in this hobby, no matter how big or small. Sharing these moments not only reminds us of why we love traveling but also inspires others to dream and create their own adventures. I know I’ll always cherish these moments, and I hope you do the same with yours.
