The American Express Platinum Card provides benefits to several merchants. Most of these are credited through statement credits: you pay with your Platinum Card, and an adjustment appears in your statement within a few days. At least, that’s how it’s supposed to work.
The Uber/Uber Eats Credit Process
One of the most popular credits available to Platinum cardholders is the Uber/Uber Eats monthly credit. Unlike traditional statement credits that are applied after the fact, the Uber credit works a bit differently. Each month, cardholders receive $15 in Uber Cash, which is automatically loaded into their account, rather than a statement credit being applied after the purchase.
The Uber Cash credit can be used for Uber rides or Uber Eats orders. However, it’s important to note that the credit must be used by the end of each month, or it will expire.
Bonus December Uber Cash
In addition to the regular $15 monthly Uber Cash, American Express also adds a bonus during the holiday season. Every December, Platinum cardholders receive an additional $20 Uber Cash, bringing the total monthly credit to $35 for the month.
Reminder to Use Your Uber Cash
I only occasionally use Uber for rides, so I find it helpful to have a go-to order on Uber Eats that’s just above the $15 threshold, ensuring I use the full credit each month. However, during the December bonus period, I make sure to add an extra lunch or even use the credit for a bigger order to take advantage of the additional $20.
Final Thought
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this benefit—do you take full advantage of your monthly Uber Cash? How do you typically use it: for rides, meals, or both? Share your experience or ask any questions in the comments below.
