Has Hertz Dropped Your President’s Circle Status? Here’s How to Reactivate It

by joeheg

One of the lesser-known perks of having the Capital One Venture X credit card is the automatic upgrade to Hertz President’s Circle status. This is a top-tier status that would typically require either 15 rentals or spending $3,000, making it a pretty sweet bonus for cardholders. If you’re a frequent traveler, the benefits of being a President’s Circle member are well worth it.

  • Earn 1.5 points for every $1
  • A dedicated 24/7 customer service line

How to Sign Up

To sign up, follow the link provided by Capital One on their website. Once there, you’ll need to enter your Hertz information, and, in theory, your upgrade will be processed seamlessly. For detailed step-by-step instructions on how to link your account, check out this post: How to Link Your Capital One Venture X Card to Hertz President’s Circle Status.

But, as anyone who’s dealt with rewards or status upgrades knows, things don’t always go according to plan. I ran into a bit of a snag when my Hertz status was downgraded all the way to Basic Gold despite having the Venture X card. When I followed the instructions to link accounts and clicked submit, I received a message that my account was already linked, which was true. However, if my account is linked, I should still have my President’s Circle status, right?

The Support Process

To resolve the issue, I was directed to text Hertz’s support. The support process was a bit frustrating—after each message, I had to wait several minutes for a response, which made the whole thing feel like it was dragging on forever.

After verifying my information, they asked me to log out and back into my account. Once I did that, voila—my account status was updated back to President’s Circle. It was a simple fix, but I can’t deny that the wait time between messages was a bit of a hassle.

In the grand scheme of things, I’m glad the process was relatively painless, but it’s still annoying that I have to go through this process each year to reactivate my status.

Permanent Status for Venture X Holders

In case you’ve missed it, Capital One has officially made the Hertz President’s Circle status a permanent benefit for Venture X cardholders, despite some uncertainty around the perk last year. And if you’re an American Express Platinum cardholder (personal or business), you can enjoy the same benefit too!

It’s always nice when your credit card comes with unexpected perks like this—just don’t be surprised if it takes a little extra time to get everything squared away!
