Why the Chase Ink Business Cash Card Is a Must-Have for Earning Ultimate Rewards Points

by joeheg

If you’re like me and prioritize earning transferable points whenever you make purchases, you’ll know how valuable Chase Ultimate Rewards points can be. They’re versatile, valuable, and worth replenishing whenever possible. Luckily, there’s a way to earn them effortlessly with a card that offers incredible rewards and has no annual fee.

Let me introduce you to the Chase Ink Business Cash Card—a card that keeps my Ultimate Rewards points balance growing without requiring any extra effort.

Why the Chase Ink Business Cash Card Stands Out

One of the simplest ways to maximize rewards is using credit cards for everyday expenses—especially bills you’re already paying, like internet and cell phone services. The Chase Ink Business Cash Card takes this to another level with its generous earning structure and no annual fee.

But there’s something important to note: this is a business card, so only business owners can apply. Now, I won’t tell you to sign up for a business credit card if you don’t have a business. That’s something I won’t do here on Your Mileage May Vary.

However, if you have a legitimate side business—whether it’s freelancing, selling products online, or any other small venture that has expenses (and hopefully income)—you should be eligible to apply for a business card. Just be honest on your application about the nature and size of your business.

Key Details About the Chase Ink Business Cash Card

Annual Fee

You’ll be glad to hear this card has no annual fee—a rarity for a card which offers a great return for spending.

Sign-Up Bonus

Here’s where things get even better:

  • $350 cash back after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months.
  • $400 cash back after spending a total of $6,000 in the first 6 months.

Pro Tip: If you pair this card with a premium Chase card (like the Sapphire Preferred or Reserve), you can unlock even greater value by transferring your points for travel bookings or to Chase’s transfer partners.

Earning Rates

This card is a powerhouse for everyday spending:

  • 5x points on the first $25,000 spent each account anniversary year at:
    • Office supply stores
    • Internet, cable, and phone services
  • 2x points on the first $25,000 spent each account anniversary year at:
    • Gas stations
    • Restaurants
  • 1x point on all other purchases, with no earning cap.

Foreign Transaction Fees

This card isn’t ideal for international use due to its 3% foreign transaction fee. When traveling abroad, use a card that doesn’t charge extra fees for foreign currency purchases. Here’s a guide to help you avoid those pesky charges.

Rental Car Coverage

A standout feature is the primary auto rental collision damage waiver—but only when renting for business purposes. If you have an accident in a rental car, this card’s coverage kicks in before your personal auto insurance, saving you money and hassle.

Travel & Purchase Protections

The card also offers protections for:

  • Baggage delays and lost luggage
  • Purchases against damage and theft
  • Extended warranty coverage

How to Maximize Ultimate Rewards Points

While the Ink Cash card earns cashback by default, you can unlock the full potential of your points by pairing it with a premium Chase card like the Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Business Preferred. By transferring points to these cards, you can:

  • Use the Chase travel portal to redeem points for 1.25 to 1.5 cents each.
  • Transfer points to Chase’s travel partners like Hyatt, United, or Singapore Airlines for outsized value.

If you transfer the points to one of Chase’s partners like Hyatt, there’s no limit to the value you can get for the points. That’s how we got to stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai

Who Should Apply?

The Chase 5/24 rule applies here, meaning you might not be eligible if you’ve opened 5 or more credit cards in the past 24 months. However, business cards like this one typically don’t count toward your personal 5/24 tally, making it a great option if you’re managing those limits. If you have a small business or a side hustle, this card can be a fantastic way to earn rewards on your business expenses. Just remember to apply responsibly and be truthful about your business details.

Final Thoughts

The Chase Ink Business Cash Card is a standout option in the crowded business card market. Between the generous earning structure and the lack of an annual fee, it’s a no-brainer for anyone looking to earn Ultimate Rewards points effortlessly. Add in the lucrative sign-up bonus, and this card can quickly become a cornerstone of your points-earning strategy.

If I apply for this card first and I don’t have another UR card, will I be able to get a UR card later and convert the $900 to 90K points?

Joe,

I currently have the Cash and Unlimited cards. Is it possible for me to downgrade my Unlimited for a second Cash card? I’ve had the Cash for several years (if that matters). And I don’t have the $$$ for the sign up bonus spend.
