JetBlue Pax Anoints Plane With Holy Oil Before Boarding: “In Jesus’ Name, We Pray”

a close-up of the tail of an airplane

When you think about all the plane accidents that’ve happened in the past couple of months, it’s, well, kind of scary. I mean, as of late last week, there have been 87 aviation accidents in the U.S. just since the beginning of the year (62 in January and 25, so far, in February), 13 of which had fatalities (a total of 85 fatalities).

Take that, and the current regime cutting away hundreds of FAA jobs, including air traffic control staff, and sure, it can make most people a little leery about flying nowadays.

So it doesn’t seem so far-fetched that JetBlue passenger Desiree Salter took matters into her own hands a couple of weeks ago and, before boarding her flight in Orlando, anointed the plane with holy oil. She videotaped the occasion and posted it on her TikTok account.

In the video, which has gospel music in the background, you can see Salter holding a small bottle filled with what she said was “holy oil or blessed oil.” She tilted the bottle until some of the oil was on her finger, then marked the sign of the cross on both sides of the cabin door.

Once she was done, she looked at the camera and tapped the bottle. Then she stepped onto the plane.

“In Jesus’ name we pray… AMEN!!” she captioned the video, along with a prayer hands emoji.

Here’s the video:

The video, which has been viewed over 6 million times, has over 5,000 comments. Not surprisingly, they were on both sides of the fence – those who believed her efforts were helpful, and those who reminded everyone that it’s the pilot and the rest of the plane staff that get the plane from Point A to Point B safely.

Salter posted another video the same day, explaining where she got the oil from (her stepfather is a pastor at her church and he prays over the oil) and why she anointed the plane with it.

About a week later, Salter was on ye olde TikTok again, this time flying home from Punta Cana, and again blessing the plane before she entered the aircraft.

“POV: We will bless THIS plane… AGAIN!” was the caption, followed by an emoji of praying hands.

In the comments of this video, she wrote, “I made it back home safely!!! Thanks everyone!! God is Good!! I pray everyone have safe travels if they are flying soon.”

What do you think?

A passenger anointing a plane appears to bring up big feelings of either yea or nay. Which way do you sway? (remember that our #1 rule is to be polite. If your comment is rude, we won’t approve it)
