Buc-ee’s has been an iconic brand since its start in the early 1980s. Part gas station, part convenience store, part car wash, part carry-out restaurant, part bakery, part super clean restrooms, the brand has been getting more and more fans for over 40 years.
Buc-ee’s started as a chain that was limited to Texas. But since 2019, they’ve been expanding and reaching out to other states. Besides the dozens of locations located in the Lone Star State, Buc-ee’s can also be found in:
- Alabama (Athens, Auburn, Leeds, Loxley)
- Colorado (Johnstown)
- Florida (Daytona Beach, St. Augustine)
- Georgia (Calhoun, Warner Robins)
- Kentucky (Richmond, Smiths Grove)
- Missouri (Springfield)
- South Carolina (Florence)
- Tennessee (Crossville, Sevierville)
There are a handful of other Buc-ee’s locations that are in the midst of being built. One of those is planned to be in Huber Heights, Ohio, a suburb on the north side of Dayton, about 15-20 minutes from Downtown Dayton by car (also 15-20 minutes from Dayton International Airport…in case you want to fly in and visit 😉 ). It’s just off Route 70.
The location was announced in 2023 and had its groundbreaking in early August 2024. According to the Daytona Daily News, the Huber Heights location was planned to have 74,000 square feet of retail space, making it one of the largest in the country.
Building was going well until mid-November 2024, when construction was stopped due to a dispute regarding whether Huber Heights or Clark County was going to provide water and sewer services for the location. However, a month later, the issue was cleared up, and Huber Heights Mayor Jeff Gore posted to social media to make the public aware that a new agreement had been approved and construction would be resumed.
At the time, the goal was for the Huber Heights Buc-ee’s to open in time for its originally planned opening date in December, 2025. But unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case anymore. Multiple local outlets are saying that according to Jeff Nadalo, Buc-ee’s general counsel, the Huber Heights location is now expected to not be open until spring 2026. Buc-ee’s Director of Real Estate Development, Stan Beard, confirms that the 2025 opening is delayed due to “early project hiccups.”
Meanwhile, when asked about the change in opening day plans, Gore said he believed December 2025 was still the plan, saying nothing different has been relayed to the city.
Gore added there have been some weather struggles but in more recent weeks he has also seen work being done on weekends.
But frankly, I’d believe Buc-ee’s corporate more.
“We will provide more specific information as we get closer to the finish line. No need to panic; fresh Texas BBQ and the world’s cleanest restrooms are on the way!” Beard said.
Sorry to hear about your delay, y’all. But I promise it’ll be worth it!
