They Stole Delta Passenger’s Seat But Karma Saved The Day

by SharonKurheg

The other day we told you about a passenger behavior that’s so brazen that it even has a name. Little did we know that we’d come across a real-life story about it, less than a week later, but there ya go.

OK, so…you know how you always hear about how bad things happen to good people? Apparently, it did happen to this passenger…at first. And then, as you’ll see, karma saved the day.

The story was shared by Redditor u/russingtonIII on the r/Delta Air Lines subreddit. The post was titled “The time a seat stealer made my whole night” and as of this writing it has over 14,000 upvotes after it was originally posted on April 30th.

An Annoying Start to the Flight

In the post, russingtonIII recalled how an irritating experience turned into awe and gratitude over what could have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“I always see seat stealer stories and have been shocked I never came across one,” they wrote. “Today while reading someone else’s post I realized I actually have had a seat stealer incident but the coolest thing happened because of it.”

The whole thing started when russingtonIII and their travel mate were assigned to seats 1C and 1D on the plane. But when they got to their seats, they discovered that a couple with a baby already were already sitting there.

“Now this one could’ve been an honest mistake on the couple since the seats were pretty much identical, but it was the way the guy reacted that was what sucked,” they wrote. “I was supposed to be in 1C and 1D but the couple with a baby were supposed to be on the other side.

“No big deal at all,” they continued. “I don’t even want to make them get up, but I still have to make sure they were supposed to be in A/B so that I don’t steal someone else’s seat.”

Fair enough, right? Just because someone steals your seat doesn’t mean you get to steal someone else’s seat.

But what happened next was kind of awkward.

“I ask, the guy ignored me. I ask again, explaining that I don’t care you’re in my seat…I just want to make sure it’s what your original assignment was so that I’m not taking anyone’s seat. The husband looks at me weird and was like yeah yeah it is.”

The Redditor didn’t want to escalate the situation. Obviously, the seats were the same, so they just figure, “Cool, we take the seats and no interaction with them from there,” they said.

Karma Comes Through at 1 A.M.

Fast forward a few hours, and russingtonIII’s kindness wound up paying off in a big way.

“What was awesome is that the flight attendant quietly came up to us (we were up still, it was 1 am) mid-flight and told us to open our window. I got to check off the bucket list that I got to see the northern lights that night.”an airplane wing with the northern lights in the sky

A View They Never Would’ve Seen

They said the view was absolutely gorgeous. AND only visible to that side of the plane, bwaaaaahahaha! Had the seat squatter not squatted, russingtonIII never would’ve seen it.

Yay, karma!
