If you’ve paid any attention to the news – or social media – in the past few days, you know about the “Coldplay Kiss Cam incident.”
But in case you missed it, British rock band Coldplay performed their sold out “Music of Spheres” show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, last Wednesday, July 16. During a “kiss cam” moment, when couples in the audience were being displayed on the screens, two attendees were caught in an embrace. Pretty typical, yes? Well, no…
The concertgoers — who have since been identified as Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company’s Chief People Officer, Kristin Cabot — had their arms around each other but were quick to separate when called out on the big screen (she covered her face and turned around, he moved out of the camera’s eye).
“whoa, look at these two. Alright, come on. You’re OK,” Martin, the band’s frontman said in the clip. “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy. I’m not quite sure what to do.”
@instaagraace trouble in paradise?? 👀 #coldplay #boston #coldplayconcert #kisscam #fyp
As it turned out, it was indeed the latter. Y’see, although Cabot’s divorced, Byron’s married…but not to her. And that’s where and why things went south quickly.
Of course, the internet being what it is, the video quickly went viral, and people and brands from all over the world roasted the couple.
Lovesac (great couches, BTW)
The Philadelphia Phillies
And, of course, the Photoshoppers and ChatGPT people had a field day…
But what caught my eye were the three airline companies that had their say about the moment…
Ryanair
Ireland-based ULLC Ryanair is well known for roasting, not only their passengers, but themselves. They came through like only Ryanair can:
(there’s a backstory to this one – Back in May, the airline made headlines when they refused to sit a couple together after they didn’t pay to reserve their seats. Of course, the couple complained online. Also of course, Ryanair took no pity on them because Ryanair. Ryanair simply said as a response, “Today is a good day to separate couples onboard.”)
GlobeAir
Private charter jet company GlobeAir had their own fun with the situation, suggesting what couples can do right after they’ve been embarrassed in front of virtually the entire world:

Royal Jordanian
I don’t know why I thought the flag carrier of Jordan wouldn’t be the type to get caught up in this whole thing, but I apparently thought wrong. And they were kinda brutal, to boot.
Our take
Obviously, there’s the whole ethical “should we make fun of other people’s problems?” on top of the “privacy” issue of, granted, being at a public event and not expecting to be on a kiss cam. Then again, there’s also the ethics of “they’re both married to other people, he had his arms around her and they broke apart as soon as they realized they were on camera, which suggests they were up to no good” thing, too.
Everyone will have their own take on it.
