Better Late Than Never? MCO Sends Me a Parking Bill from 2024

by joeheg

When you park at Orlando International Airport (MCO), you’ve got a couple of payment options. One of the most convenient ways is to use E-PASS or SunPass. You simply enter through the specially marked lane, park as usual, and when you exit, the parking fee is deducted from your toll account. Easy. Seamless. Done.

At least, that’s how it’s supposed to work.

Now, I use E-PASS pretty regularly. It’s tied to our AMEX Green card, which earns 3X Membership Rewards points on transit (and yes, tolls count). So I don’t really check my E-PASS account much—it’s on autopilot, refilling automatically like clockwork.

But the other day, I got an unexpected email. A parking receipt from the Central Florida Expressway Authority, which runs E-PASS.

Odd, I thought. I haven’t parked at the airport in ages—we usually use Fast Park & Relax, which is, well, not as expensive as airport parking.

So imagine my surprise when I opened the receipt and saw this:

a receipt of parking receipt

Entry: 8/1/2024 at 5:38 PM
Exit: 8/1/2024 at 8:41 PM
Amount Charged: $13.00

That’s right. Orlando Airport just now charged me for parking…from nearly a year ago.

It wasn’t even a long stay. I had gone to pick up my wife after her flight had been delayed and diverted to Fort Lauderdale due to weather. I spent a few hours at the terminal refreshing flight tracking apps and eating a pretzel. Apparently, the garage forgot to charge me at the time—and waited until now to rectify the $13 oversight.

To be clear: yes, I did park there. Yes, I do technically owe them that $13. But really, MCO? A year later?

I recently received an email receipt from them dated from last August, too. But, it looks like the charge actually hit my E-PASS account in a timely manner (it’s on my statement from September 2024), even though the receipt just now (finally) showed up.
