This Trout Farm in the Smokies Lets You Catch and Eat Your Own Fish

by joeheg

During our stay in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area, we decided to take a little detour from our cabin in the mountains for lunch. About 30–40 minutes from the main strip is a place that offers something different — you can catch your own fish and have it cooked up on the spot. Welcome to English Mountain Trout Farm & Grill in Sevierville, TN.

At their website — englishmountaintroutfarm.com — you can find basic information, current hours, and photos. For the most up-to-date details, including specials, events, or seasonal closures, check their Facebook page or Instagram account. If you’re looking for reviews, TripAdvisor is still a great resource.

A Multi-Layer Experience

This isn’t just a restaurant. Sure, you can come and sit down for a meal — but if you’re in the mood for a little more adventure, you can catch your own trout right out back.

They provide everything you need: a bamboo pole, bait, and a net. The pond is well-stocked, so this isn’t a serious fishing challenge. It’s a fun, low-key experience that’s great for kids, beginners, or anyone who’s never caught a fish before.

Once you’ve caught your trout, you can either take it home cleaned or have it cooked right there. It’s a simple setup: you choose your cooking style — fried, lemon pepper, or blackened — and pick a couple of sides.

A Little Bit of Fame — and Our Experience

Although the trout farm has been around for years, it recently gained national attention when it was featured on Guy’s All-American Road Trip on the Food Network. The episode brought a wave of attention and can be streamed on HBO Max.

Unfortunately for us, we visited just after the episode aired, which meant a bigger crowd than usual. Even so, it wasn’t unmanageable.

The staff were extremely helpful in getting everyone set up with gear and instructions. Catching the fish was quick — but once the fish were handed off to the kitchen, the wait for food took a while. In fact, a recent Facebook post even noted that Saturday wait times can exceed one hour, so plan ahead if you’re going on the weekend.
