Note: This post contains useful information about large-scale upcoming events that are based in politics. It’s meant as a way for our readers to plan their travels this Monday and is not political commentary. We don’t care which side of the political fence you lean on, who you voted for, or what you think of any government entity. Politically charged comments to this (and any other) post, regardless of whether it’s left or right leaning, will not be approved.
Part of the First Amendment, which covers the freedom of speech, is the right to peacefully assemble, which includes protests. Upwards of three million Americans took part in such peaceful protests on April 5th, during the Hands Off National Day of Action. This was followed by the May Day Strong protest on May 1st, No Kings Day protest on June 14th and the John Lewis National Day of Action protest on July 17th, to name a few.
Another large-scale protest is scheduled for this Monday, September 1st. Coinciding with Labor Day, it’s being called Workers Over Billionaires. From the coordinators, MayDayStrong.org:
Labor and community are planning more than a barbecue on Labor Day this year because we have to stop the billionaire takeover. Billionaires are stealing from working families, destroying our democracy, and building private armies to attack our towns and cities.
Just like any bad boss, the way we stop the takeover is with collective action. We are May Day Strong, working people rising up to stop the billionaire takeover–not just through the ballot box or the courts, but through building a bigger and stronger movement.
On September 1st we will continue the movement we launched on May 1st. Thousands of communities across the country are taking a stand on Labor Day, join us!
So far, Workers Over Billionaires, which has partnered with almost 150 local entities, has planned to host peaceful protests in close to 900 sites in the United States, as well as one each in Guam and Sweden.
Again, we don’t care how you feel about the current state of the United States. However, we do want our readers to know that, as of this writing, Workers Over Billionaires will affect several cities (in some cases, dozens upon dozens of them) in every state in the country, as well as Guam and Sweden.
Plan accordingly
If you’re planning on being out and about that day – perhaps as a visitor, perhaps as a local – you may want to check where demonstrations will be taking place, so you can plan your Labor Day accordingly.
To reiterate, this post is intended as a guide for our readers to plan their travels this Monday and is not a political commentary. We don’t care which side of the political fence you lean on, who you voted for, or what you think of any government entity. Politically charged comments to this post will not be approved.
