The Sapphire Reserve is Chase’s premium travel credit card. It provides a combination of points earning and travel insurance coverage. When it comes to travel perks, it’s in the pack with cards offering a Priority Pass membership and TSA PreCheck, NEXUS, or Global Entry reimbursement. Many of the other travel benefits supplied by the card come from being a Visa Infinite card, including premier-level rental car memberships with companies like National and Avis.
If you’re interested in signing up for a Chase Sapphire Reserve or want to hear more about the card, check out our full review.
To view the benefits of your Sapphire Reserve, log in to your Chase account (either online or in the app) and select the card. From there, navigate to the section that lists your card benefits. You’ll see tiles covering perks such as Priority Pass membership and rental car privileges — for now, we’re focusing on the rental car benefits.
Click on the one that says “Special Car Rental Privileges.”
National Emerald Club Executive
As a Visa Infinite cardholder, the Sapphire Reserve gives you complimentary National Emerald Club Executive status. This lets you bypass the counter and pick your car directly from the aisle when you reserve a mid-size or larger vehicle. With Executive-level status, you also get access to the Executive Aisle, which typically includes a wider selection of cars, though upgrades are usually modest (often just the next-level sedan or SUV).
You can sign up through the Chase benefits portal, or use this link to enroll or link an existing account. Reservations made through the Visa Infinite portal will also automatically apply up to a 25% discount.
Avis Preferred Plus
Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders also receive Avis Preferred Plus status through the Visa Infinite program. This is one level above the standard Avis Preferred tier and includes perks such as:
- Up to 30% off base rates (use AWD number S107100 when booking).
- Complimentary two-day weekend rental for qualifying reservations.
- Priority service to skip the line at participating locations.
- Earn rewards points faster on every rental when enrolled.
If you don’t already have an Avis account, you can sign up through the Visa Infinite portal. If you have an existing Avis Wizard number, you can use this link to upgrade your account.
Hertz Fast Track to Five Star®
Unlike the automatic elite status you receive with National and Avis, Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders only get a fast track to Hertz Five Star® through the Visa Infinite program. Here’s how it works:
- Enroll for free in Hertz Gold Plus Rewards through the Visa Infinite portal.
- After completing 7 qualifying rentals or $1,500 in spend, you’ll be upgraded to Hertz Five Star® status.
Five Star status includes benefits such as:
- Guaranteed vehicle availability at participating locations.
- One-car-class upgrades (subject to availability).
- Bonus points on rentals (25% more Hertz Gold Plus Rewards points).
- Ability to skip the counter and head straight to your car at select locations.
You’ll still save up to 15% on rentals and get a free additional driver (spouse/civil partner) when booking with your Visa Infinite discount code, even before reaching Five Star status. Click here to enroll.
Final Thoughts
The Chase Sapphire Reserve doesn’t overwhelm you with dozens of rental car partners, but the benefits it does provide are practical. Cardholders get complimentary status with National and Avis, plus discounts and upgrades that can save both time and money. For Hertz, the card offers a fast track to Five Star® status rather than automatic elite standing — still useful if you rent often.
Combined with the Sapphire Reserve’s strong travel protections, these rental perks make the card a reliable choice for frequent travelers who value smoother experiences at the counter and the lot.
