Discover’s Q4 5% Categories Are Live — And They’re Perfect for Holiday Spending

by joeheg

Discover’s final 5% Cashback Bonus categories for the year are now live, and Q4 2025 sticks with a familiar (but very rewarding) theme: Amazon.com and Drug Stores. If you’re planning to do any holiday shopping or stock up on essentials, this quarter is a great time to max out your bonus.

What Counts (and What Doesn’t)

Amazon.com purchases include:

  • Digital downloads
  • Amazon Fresh orders
  • Amazon Local Deals
  • Amazon Prime subscriptions
  • Third-party marketplace items
  • In-store purchases at Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh

Note: Purchases made online or in-store at Whole Foods Market do not qualify.

Drug Store purchases include those made at stand-alone pharmacies, drug stores, and online pharmacies. However, pharmacies located inside other retail stores may not qualify — so buying prescriptions at a grocery store pharmacy, for example, likely won’t earn the 5% bonus.

Amazon Is a Q4 Regular — And for Good Reason

It’s no coincidence that Discover often includes Amazon.com as a category in Q4. Between holiday shopping, Prime deals, and regular household purchases, Amazon is a go-to for many U.S. consumers in the final months of the year. Pairing it with drugstores means you can also earn on seasonal necessities like cold medicine, personal care items, and even gift cards if your local store sells them.

Maximizing This Quarter

  • Don’t forget to activate — If you haven’t already, log into your Discover account or app and confirm your 5% activation. You only start earning from the date you activate.
  • Plan to hit the $1,500 cap — Between Amazon and drugstores, it’s not hard to max out the bonus.
  • Look for stackable deals — Portals, Amazon gift card reloads, and rewards apps can boost your return even further.

Final Thought

Discover stayed with a tried-and-true formula this quarter, but it works. Between Amazon purchases and trips to the drugstore, many cardholders won’t have trouble earning the full $75 cashback cap. Make sure your 5% bonus is activated—and make your everyday spending work harder this holiday season.

Please support small and local business when possible. Amazon is putting too many small businesses out of business
