When American Express refreshed the personal Platinum Card, they added several new statement credits to help justify the $895 annual fee. One nice perk for existing cardholders was that these benefits kicked in right away—before the new annual fee went into effect at the account renewal.
Most of the new credits didn’t excite me much. But one of them caught my attention: the Resy dining credit. The only problem? I didn’t pay much attention to it because there aren’t many restaurants on Resy near where we live in Orlando.
That nearly cost me a hundred bucks.
A Lucky Break in New York
We were going to New York City and I was in charge of making a dinner reservation. When I searched for restaurants near our theater, I found one that looked perfect—and when I clicked “Reserve,” it redirected me to Resy.
Score!
Luckily, I looked up more about the new credit before we dined there. If I hadn’t, I would have lost out on the $100 credit for this quarter.
You Have to Enroll First
Like most of the newer Amex credits, the Resy credit isn’t automatic—you have to enroll before you use it.
Enrollment isn’t difficult, but it’s easy to overlook. You simply go to your Amex account’s “Benefits” page, find the $400 Resy Credit, and click “Enroll Now.” That’s it. No need to sign up for a Resy membership, pay any extra fees, or do anything beyond confirming that you want the credit added to your account.
Once enrolled, the benefit activates for all eligible purchases made with your Platinum Card. Unfortunately, if you don’t do that before dining, the credit won’t apply—even if you paid at a Resy restaurant with your Platinum Card.
How the $400 Resy Credit Works
- Up to $400 per year, divided into $100 per calendar quarter.
- Valid at U.S. restaurants that are live on Resy.com or in the Resy app and that accept American Express.
- Also applies to purchases made directly on Resy.com, in the Resy app, or via Resy Pay.
- Both the Basic and Additional Card Members can earn credits, but the total cap is $100 per quarter per account.
- Statement credits usually appear within a few days but can take up to eight weeks.
- Unused credits don’t roll over—once the quarter ends, any leftover amount is gone.
In short: if a restaurant is on the Resy platform and accepts Amex, paying with your Platinum Card can trigger the credit—as long as you enrolled first.
A Lesson Learned
I lucked out because I registered before my Resy dinner in New York, but it easily could’ve gone the other way. Had I not registered and enrolled later, that $100 would’ve been gone for good.
The takeaway? Even if you don’t have many Resy options near home, go ahead and enroll now. You never know when you’ll find yourself in a city where Resy is everywhere—like New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago. And since it’s $100 each quarter, it’s worth checking before every trip.
Sometimes, the difference between getting value from your Platinum Card and leaving money on the table is just one forgotten click.

Rookie mistake.
And I’m sharing so others don’t make the same mistake.
The Amex enrollment feature is to bake in more breakage on these offers. They’d hate for anyone to accidentally get credit for such things.
