Trevor Noah Just Shared His Travel Rules—and They Actually Make Sense

by SharonKurheg

Whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing is up for debate. But celebrities tend to have a lot of influence over the general public. That’s why you sometimes see famous people in commercials, touting cars, foods, hair products, skin products, alcohol, you name it. In fact, there’s a whole marketing strategy around the influence that celebrity endorsements can have over consumers.

Most of the time, we realize the celebrity is just being paid to say “This is a great car,” or “I look so young because I use this product.” But if they’re giving advice from their own life experiences? I might listen a little harder.

Between being a comedian, writer, producer and political commentator, Trevor Noah has been traveling an awful lot for a long, long time. The other day, he posted some tips about what he does when he travels — it looks like it was from when he was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, so it’s at least a few years old (her show ran from 2003 to 2023). But regardless of how long ago the interview was, frankly, they just make sense.

Here’s what he does:

Packing

  • He never packs more than he needs (trip is 5 days? Pack 5 pairs of underwear and 1 spare for an emergency).
  • He never packs less than he needs.
  • He packs things in his bag in the order that he’ll need them.
  • He also packs this in his carry-on, so if there’s a chance TSA will want to examine it, it’s towards the top.

At the hotel

  • He turns on the water to see how long it takes for the water to get hot (so he can use that timing to know how long it will take for his shower to get hot).
  • He checks to see where all the outlets are.
  • This is better if you’re not sharing the bed, but he lies on the bed and double-checks if there’s more of a draft on one side than the other, light coming in from somewhere, etc.

Here’s the video:

Overall, it’s pretty smart advice. Can’t beat that kind of logic!
