4 Places Where Public Sex Isn’t Legal—But Laws Are Rarely Enforced

by SharonKurheg

A while back, we wrote about places where public sex is actually legal.

That list might be one location shorter now—one reader told us our #5 spot may have been a prank. (And since I don’t read Danish… I couldn’t exactly confirm that. Oops.)

Regardless, that still leaves five places.

Meanwhile, I occasionally check to see if any of those locales have been permanently shut down, or if new ones have opened.

So far, nuthin’

However, I did recently find a new list of places where you can have sex in public, if not 100% legally, chances are you won’t be bothered.

And sometimes… in the heat of the moment, that might be good enough.

So without further ado… Here are a few places where public sex isn’t technically legal—but has a long-standing reputation for being… tolerated.

Brazil: Praia do Abricó

Located in Rio de Janeiro, Praia do Abricó is a legal nudist beach that ranks 6th in terms of beauty.

Like many other beaches around the world, public sex isn’t officially allowed here, but the beach still has that reputation. And yes, I did do some Googling (but not clicking! No malware, just an algorithm that’s going to wonder what have I been DOING?) and there are plenty (PLENTY!) of videos that suggest having sex there is pretty typical.

Denmark: Freetown Christiania

Unlike potentially Ørstedsparken, this one appears to not be a hoax.

Freetown Christiana is a self-proclaimed autonomous neighborhood in Copenhagen. It’s known for its free-spiritedness and although, once again, public sex is not legal there, it’s the type of open-minded place where people will generally look the other way.

Germany: Tiergarten Park

Tiergarden Park has long been a place for public bow-chicky-bow-bow, particularly within the LGBTQIA+ community. After dark, it’s said to turn into a discreet “social playground.”

As we mentioned in this post,  it’s legal to have sex in public in Germany…as long as nobody complains. However, there remains that one caveat – you have to be covered (a blanket or towel is fine) while you’re in the midst of that adult playtime.

Spain: Playa de Ses Illetes

Playa de Ses Illetes is in Ibiza. It’s one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, with powdery white sand and a turquoise sea.

Nudity is common there and although public sex is technically illegal, it’s said to be often overlooked at nighttime.

Here’s a video that explains more (note: they also mention Vondelpark, in Amsterdam. We had already covered that in our original post).

FAQ: is public sex illegal everywhere?

In most places, yes—public sex is technically illegal. The difference is how strictly those laws are enforced. Some destinations are known for turning a blind eye in certain areas, while others will absolutely not. When in doubt, it’s safest to assume you could get in trouble… and plan accordingly.

Caveat – always be careful!

A quick reality check

Just because something is tolerated doesn’t mean it’s legal—or risk-free.

If you’re not absolutely sure what’s allowed, you’re better off keeping things private.

But if you’re the adventurous type… these are places where, historically at least, authorities haven’t always been in a hurry to intervene.
