Oh, TikTok. While the U.S. government is/was looking into ways the app, built and run in China, is secretly spying on who knows what, most of us are in it for the time-suck videos. The funny dances. What someone’s cat just did. And yep, even the latest travel challenge.
And what’s the big thing now? Airplane yoga. And why is it such a big thing? Well, a few reasons.
Yoga is big
Yoga has been around since at least the first millennium BCE. However, it only arrived in the Western world in the late 19th to early 20th century.
Of course, yoga as a form of exercise has been steadily increasing for a couple of decades now. Nowadays, with a focus on decreasing pain, stiffness and stress, but increasing circulation, it’s become a multi-billion dollar business.
And where’s somewhere people experience a lot of pain, stiffness and stress? Inside an airplane. So of course “plane yoga” has become a thing.
Unlike, say, Pickleball or tennis, yoga can be done anywhere, even in the sky. So TikTok creators are sharing videos from flights where their flight attendants guide passengers through seated yoga flows. Because flying can reduce circulation and increase joint stiffness, as well as the risk of blood clots, so cabin crews are helping to decrease these risks with some in-flight stretching and breathing.
So you’ve got all these great physical reasons for passengers to do yoga on their flight. Plus, let’s face it – there are plenty of flight attendants who fancy themselves as comedians, so flight yoga also gives them another opportunity to keep their “audience at 35,000 feet” entertained…all while tricking passengers into picking up their trash.
Wait, what?
Yup. Take a look. Watch it until the end:

And yet another one:
@cara_ross1234 got to experience what airplane yoga is with spirit airline today! The flight attendant was amazing and was doing jokes after. she deserves a raise for making the flight great 🥰@Spirit Airlines #airplaneyoga #mcotoclt #flightattendants #holidaytravel
Those three happen to be videos from Spirit Airlines flights, but there are others from alternate airlines.
Of course, it’s just a cute joke (or…maybe not LOL) to ask PAX to pick up trash. But if flight attendants can make flying for hours just a little bit more tolerable, I can’t get mad at that.
