Remember when radio and television were free? Sure, we had to sit through commercials, but that was the trade-off.
Now, just about everything we watch or listen to comes with a monthly fee. Netflix, Spotify, YouTube TV, SiriusXM—those charges add up quickly. And since these are recurring expenses, they’re exactly the kind of purchases where you should be earning bonus points or cash back.
There used to be one card that stood above the rest for streaming purchases. These days, though, there are several solid options—depending on whether you prefer cash back or transferable points.

Best Card for Streaming (Points Strategy)
Chase Ink Business Cash Card
The Ink Business Cash is still one of the most powerful cards for streaming—if you have a business and can qualify.
- 5X points on internet, cable and phone services (up to $25,000 per year)
In practice, this category has consistently included streaming services like Spotify, SiriusXM, and even some cable-based streaming bundles. When it works, earning 5X Ultimate Rewards points on these charges is hard to beat—especially since those points can be transferred to travel partners.
This is still the backbone of my setup for streaming charges.
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
If you don’t have a business card, the Sapphire Preferred is a great alternative.
While 3X isn’t as strong as Ink Cash’s 5X, this is a much easier card for most people to get. And since the points are fully transferable, this can still be a strong option if you’re building up Ultimate Rewards.
If you’re already in the Chase ecosystem, this pairs nicely with the Ink Cash to cover any streaming services that don’t code correctly.
Best Cashback Cards for Streaming
American Express Blue Cash Preferred® Card
The Blue Cash Preferred continues to offer one of the highest returns for streaming purchases:
- 6% cash back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions
There’s a $95 annual fee, and rewards are cash back only (not transferable points), but if you spend a lot on streaming, the math can easily work in your favor.
Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card
The SavorOne is one of the best no-annual-fee options available:
- 3% cash back on streaming services
It’s simple, broad, and doesn’t require activation or tracking categories. If you want a “set it and forget it” option, this is a strong contender.
Citi Custom Cash® Card
The Custom Cash takes a slightly different approach:
- 5% cash back on your top eligible category each billing cycle (up to $500 in spend)
If streaming becomes your highest monthly category, you can earn 5% back automatically—without having to choose categories in advance.
U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card
This card still offers one of the highest earning rates available:
- 5% cash back on streaming services (when selected as a quarterly category)
The catch is that you need to activate categories each quarter. If you’re willing to put in a little effort, it can be very rewarding.
Best No-Annual-Fee Options
Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card
The Autograph is the modern replacement for the old Propel card and offers:
- 3X points on streaming services
It also earns bonus points on travel, dining, transit, and phone plans, making it a solid all-around card with no annual fee.
If you want one simple card that covers multiple categories—including streaming—this is worth a look.
How I Approach Streaming Charges
Streaming is one of those categories where it’s easy to overthink things—or just ignore it entirely.
Personally, I keep it simple:
- Use Ink Cash for 5X whenever possible
- Fallback to Sapphire Preferred if something doesn’t code correctly
- Only use cashback cards if I’m not working toward a points goal
Since these are small, recurring charges, the goal isn’t to maximize every penny—it’s to make sure you’re not leaving easy rewards on the table.
Final Thoughts
Streaming has quietly become one of the most competitive bonus categories for credit cards.
If you want the absolute highest return, the Ink Business Cash still stands out. But there are now plenty of strong alternatives, whether you prefer cashback, simplicity, or transferable points.
Like most things in this hobby, the “best” card depends on what else is in your wallet—and how much effort you want to put into optimizing every dollar.
