Uber One Just Became More Useful For International Travel

by joeheg

Uber One has always been one of those benefits that’s easy to forget about — especially if you have it because a credit card or promotion is covering the cost.

But if you travel internationally, Uber One may have just become a little more useful.

Starting June 1, 2026, Uber One members can use select membership benefits when traveling to other countries where Uber One is available. That includes cashback/credits on eligible rides and $0 delivery fees on eligible Uber Eats orders.

Uber One Benefits Can Now Travel With You

According to Uber, international Uber One benefits allow members to use parts of their membership when traveling outside their home country.

When traveling abroad, members may be able to:

  • Earn Uber One credits on eligible rides
  • Get $0 delivery fees on eligible Uber Eats orders

For U.S. Uber One members, the Uber website currently states that members can earn 6% in Uber One credits on eligible rides abroad. Those credits are earned in your home country’s currency and are generally available to use after you return home.

That’s not going to change anyone’s travel budget, but it’s still a nice little rebate if you use Uber while overseas.

Why This Matters For Amex Cardholders

This is especially relevant because many people have Uber One without necessarily thinking about it.

American Express has offered Uber One-related credits and statement credits on certain cards, meaning some travelers may already have the membership without actively paying for it.

Don’t Let Uber Convert The Currency For You

There’s one important setting to check before using Uber overseas.

Uber has a Preferred Currency Pricing option that can show and charge rides in your home currency when you’re traveling internationally. That may sound convenient, but Uber says it adds a currency conversion fee when you choose to pay in your preferred currency instead of the local currency.

This is the same basic rule as paying with a credit card overseas. If the terminal asks whether you want to pay in U.S. dollars or the local currency, choose the local currency. If you’re using a card with no foreign transaction fees, your card network will usually handle the conversion better than the merchant or app.

Final Thought

Uber One’s new international benefits are not a major reason to sign up on their own. Earning 6% back in Uber One credits on eligible rides abroad is nice, but it’s not life-changing.

But if you already have Uber One, especially through an Amex benefit or another promotion, this is a useful new travel perk. Between ride credits and possible $0 delivery fees on Uber Eats orders abroad, Uber One may now be worth paying a little more attention to before your next international trip.

Just make sure Uber isn’t quietly converting the currency for you and eating into the savings.
