I’m never shocked when I hear about people doing stupid things. I mean, I live in Florida. People doing stupid things happens pretty much daily down here. There are some things that I look at and think, “How many people were doing this that they had to make a sign telling them not to do it?”
I mean, it might only be one. For example, there are signs on the Mexico pavilion at Epcot in Walt Disney World because someone thought climbing the steps of the Aztec pyramid would be a good idea.
Don’t get drunk at Epcot, and try to do this. Okay?
There’s also this sign my dad and his wife found when visiting Myanmar:
I want to know what it says over the third panel. What was the person in that picture trying to do with the toilet?
Here’s another one from Thailand where I can’t believe it was happening so much they needed to make a sign:
While all of those signs are strange, I can understand them. The first one is to keep drunk guests from climbing pavilions (but if you’re that drunk, is a sign going to stop you?), and the other two are cultural differences. People living in countries where squat toilets are the norm might just be looking for what they’re used to, and I’m sure there are places where you wash your feet in the toilet (I now know it’s a religious thing, and they’re letting people know not to use the toilet but to use a designated space nearby).
But this one sign, or more accurately, this sticker, aggravates me when I see it in a hotel room.
STOP HANGING CLOTHES FROM THE SPRINKLERS!!!!
In this instance, the sprinkler heads were about 8 feet off the ground. To hang anything from the sprinkler head, you’d need one of those clothes-hanging devices from stores or at least a selfie stick.
However, if you want to hang clothes from the sprinklers, you could use the other sprinkler head in the room. There’s no sticker under that one, so it must be okay, right?
But this must be a big enough problem because there are dozens of listings on Amazon for “Do Not Hang from Fire Sprinkler Sign.”
Sometimes, I think everyone else is normal, and I’m the only one who can’t believe this stuff isn’t just made up.

Oh, god. There was a news story maybe a year ago about a stupid WEDDING PLANNER who hung the bride’s dress on a sprinkler to take photos… SMH. IIRC, the makeup artist posted a video, saying she lost about $3k worth of materials. That *didn’t* include the dress, hotel ROOMS, or other people’s belongings. The wedding planner (supposedly) didn’t even have insurance, so the hotel would charge the bride, who would then have to sue the planner. 😮
It would be great if you could find an update!
I think the third panel in the sign from Myanmar is simply a warning that the floor may be wet and hence, slippery. Especially if the Thais have been washing their feet in the toilet.
For some of us 8 feet off the ground isn’t that high. I’m 6ft7 and could easily reach up to a ceiling at 8ft with my fingertips to touch it or grab something that high up.
