American Express has one of the most generous referral policies of all the major banks. If you have an AMEX card, you’re able to generate a referral link that’ll reward you with points, miles or cash, depending on the card, when someone is approved for a card . Where AMEX differs from other banks is that not only can you refer people for the same card that you have, but they can also sign up for any number of other cards and you’ll still get the referral bonus.
These are only some of the cards available with one of our AMEX referral links:
Today we received an email from American Express with a referral offer for the Everyday Preferred card. It’s a tempting offer for a card that normally doesn’t have that great of a signup bonus.
But there’s a catch to the offer, which I’ll get to in a second…
The normal signup bonus for the American Express Everyday Preferred is 20,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days. That’s not a huge bonus but it’s also a low spending requirement and the card is a solid contender for everyday spending, earning 1.5 points on everything if you make 30 transactions per month. Here’s our review of the card if you want to learn more about it.
But this email wasn’t for the normal referral offer; it’s extra.
Refer your Amex EveryDay®
Preferred Credit Card and for a limited time, one friend can get up to $250 back for any purchase on ticketmaster.com. Only your referral can unlock this special offer for a friend, so don’t let them miss out.On top of a Ticketmaster credit, your friend can also earn 20,000 Membership Rewards® points after spending $1,000 in purchases on their new Card in their first three months of Card Membership.
So this offer is for the usual 20,000 point signup bonus plus up to $250 back on purchases from Ticketmaster.com.
If you value Membership Rewards points at 1.5 cents each, the normal signup bonus is worth $300. This offer almost doubles that amount. The thing is you’d need to spend $250 at Ticketmaster online to get the credit. If you’re going to any big concert, like The Rolling Stones, you’ll easily spend $250.
So what’s the catch?
You can only share this exclusive offer with one friend, so choose wisely!
Wow, that’s one heck of a targeted offer. One friend. How do you pick just one person for this offer?
Does anyone think this is a good deal? I know there are other AMEX cards that have a larger signup bonus, but if you’ve already gotten those, then this is a good chance to get a decent return for the Everyday Preferred.
Final Thoughts
This has to be the most targeted referral link ever. Only being able to send it to one person is kinda crazy if you think about it. I guess it’s a good way to get people who normally wouldn’t share a signup link to get a friend to apply for an AMEX card.

No, it’s a grest idea – stops credit card pimps, er, ‘travel experts’ from shilling to their clueless readers.
