Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- I’ve written about if it makes sense to keep, downgrade or cancel a credit card. Monkey Miles writes about a decision about which cards to keep, ones that were converted and which ones didn’t make the cut.
- One of the most frustrating things about hotel rewards programs is when an offer of free nights depends on a certain type of room being available, and those rooms types are few and far between. Gary from View From the Wing writes about the Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach playing with room classifications and how Hyatt corporate is powerless to stop it.
- Sharon’s never going to get rid of her American Express Green Card so I was excited to hear from Doctor of Credit that new applications for the card have been closed. That usually means the card is due for a refresh and I’m hoping for some new bonus categories that will make the annual fee worthwhile.
- I gladly admit that I’m a Star Wars geek. I redeemed an IHG free night certificate at WDW to be able to visit Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios on opening weekend. Sharon’s not as big of a fan (Note from Sharon: SO close! “Sharon is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a Star Wars fan.” There, I fixed it for you) but still appreciates the detail of the new land. Imagine my excitement about Disney’s announcement about Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the Star Wars “hotel” opening for two-night immersive experiences. I can only imagine what a stay there will cost. Now, I recently said that I hope I’m not a social media influencer, but if WDW were to offer me a free stay to write about the experience, I’d probably take it 🙂
- My favorite hotel credit cards are the IHG cards issued by Chase. While they used to offer a free night at all IHG hotels, they’re now capped at rooms costing 40,000 points or less. While you can search hotels one by one to find out if they’re eligible, Loyalty Lobby wrote about how IHG is now publishing a list of cards that are exempt from the credit card free night.
- One of the things people ask about our 15-hour flight from Los Angeles to Sydney is what it was like to be on a plane for that long. I often ask them to imagine getting on a plane, watching some TV, having dinner, watching a movie or two and going to sleep. When you wake up, you still have 8 hours to go. One Mile at a Time writes about the 20-hour Qantas flight from New York to Sydney and I can only imagine what the people on that plane felt like.
- Traveling for Miles wrote an interesting post about a hotel co-brand card which had its annual fee reduced to zero while keeping all of its benefits. Since I hadn’t heard of the card before and now I know of its benefits, I’m interested.
- Calling for retention offers is annoying. You have to work your way through a maze of call reps to just to get to the one who might give you a good offer to keep your card. But what if you want to cancel the card? Miles For Family warns about closing a card by chat since the AMEX rep might just close our the wrong card.
