Some of our favorite vacation trips is going to visit wineries. We’ve been to visit Napa, Sonoma and the Willamette Valley.
While it’s impossible for us to visit any winery right now, many wineries are discounting shipping of their wines to your house in light of the situation we’re all in.
We may have taken advantage of more than one of these offers.
If you’re going to be buying wine anyway, might as well support a “small business winery” instead of one of the mass-produced wines.
On our visits to various wine growing regions, we’ve discovered several wineries we really like. Here are a few of them.
Chehalem
Located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, Chehalem is most well known for its amazing Pinot Noir. For us, they produce our go-to outside wines with their INOX Chardonnay and their Rose. Living in Florida, these are staples for us for most of the year.
Chehalem is offering a shipping special for all of April.
Thank you for your support! Order 6-11 bottles for $10 ground flat rate shipping, upgrade to 12+ for shipping on us!
De Ponte Cellars
De Ponte was a winery brought to our attention by our wine guide when we visited Oregon. Knowing what we liked, he said we needed to visit the winery and he wasn’t wrong.
We’re a big fan of their Pinot Noir and they also bottle a Melon de Bourgogne that’s fantastic. They have a free shipping offer as well.
Complimentary shipping on 6 or more bottles – use code FREESHIP
Our tastes do expand to more than Willamette Pinot Noir. One of my favorite wineries is located in Napa Valley.
Cakebread Cellars
Cakebread’s Napa Valley Chardonnay’s are part of what made Napa world famous. Their buttery Chardonnay’s are the epitome of what you’d expect from Napa Valley. We were fans long before their base bottle went for $40.
Cakebread’s wines aren’t cheap, but they are offering $10 shipping on a pack of their regular wines and a selection of reserve wines. If you’re able to afford these prices, I’m sure that shipping prices don’t phase you, but it’s still a chance to get some great wines for less than you’d usually spend.
Wine Clubs
If you’re looking to support small businesses, there are any number of wine clubs that curate shipments from wineries that are too small to support large distribution networks. After taking a wine tour in Oregon, we joined up with the Backroads Wine Club.
Jack runs the club and he’s passionate about wine and getting the best selections to his members at a reasonable price. I’ve written to him about a surprising find and he’s always replied with thanks for trying a wine that he loves and wants to share with the world. I’m not getting paid for this promotion, but I think if you’re not able to visit Oregon, joining Backroads Wine Club is the next best thing.
Final Thoughts
While some people are obsessed about supporting local businesses, there’s no denying that many wineries around the US are small businesses run by people passionate about what they’re doing. Sure, it’s easy to buy some wine from the local supermarket or even a delivery service. But if you have a wine you really like from a smaller winery, go to check out their website. They just might have a shipping special that makes buying from them less expensive than getting wine from the store.
They’ll appreciate it. It also means there will still be wineries to visit when we’re all able to get to the wine-growing regions of our country again.

What no Vinesse wines to earn miles? 🙂 Seriously it is good to support small businesses. I wish AMEX would launch a new small business promo like they used to do. I don’t think most sellers of alcohol in general are doing that poorly if they are distributed to retail stores as those stores are selling a lot to folks with nothing to do at home but drink. That also is a good reason to stock up your wine cellar for future concerns as stocks could run low later in 2020 according to experts.
