I’m a Starbucks person. I love drinking my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season (but only when the temperature drops below 60F.). When I’m working a morning shift, a stop at the Starbucks for a coffee and breakfast sandwich is going to happen. The baristas even left me a note on my coffee on the last day before I changed work locations.
So when Starbucks is willing to give away 300 stars in the Starbucks Rewards program, they have my attention. Since you can redeem 125 stars for a free drink or food item, this offer is like getting $10 – $20 back. Unlike some of their recent promotions that wanted me to change my behavior (Like the one that was offering me 50 stars if I stopped in on a weekday between 2-5PM for 5 days in a row. Yeah, not gonna happen), this one is rewarding me for something I’m going to do anyway.
I received this email today, which offered me 300 stars for loading $20 or more in the Starbucks App with Chase Pay. I already have the Starbucks App but had never used Chase Pay before.
I’ve written about how you can get some great offers just by using Visa Checkout and Masterpass. Chase Pay is a similar program that lets you pay for items online by using an app instead of your card. I’m not fully on board with these programs for everyday purchases, as they seem to add an unnecessary step to the process, but for 300 stars I’m willing to give it a whirl. One major difference from Visa Checkout and Masterpass is that with Chase Pay you can only use selected Chase Visa credit cards. Here’s a link to a list of eligible cards.
One last thing before you go running off to collect your stars – you might want to go to your Chase account first and choose which card you want to use for Chase Pay. I didn’t do this and ended up loading my account from my Disney Visa instead of my Sapphire Reserve. Oops. You can skip this first part if you already have Chase Pay set up.
Setting Up Chase Pay
I did this on my computer but I’d imagine it’s possible to do via mobile. There’s also a Chase Pay app but I didn’t want to download it just for a single use.
After logging to your Chase account, click on the menu to the left of the screen and find the “Pay and Transfer” tab.
From there, click on the “Chase Pay” tab.
Then it’s just a matter of following the prompts to select which card you want to be the primary one used for Chase Pay transactions.
Using Chase Pay in the Starbucks App
Paying with Chase Pay in the Starbucks App is really simple. I’m going to use iPhone screens for an example but I’d imagine it’s pretty similar for other phones.
Open the “Pay” tab, select the card you want to add funds to and go to the “Reload” tab.
Then you need to select “Chase Pay” as the payment method. If it’s not listed, you can click on “Add Payment Method” and select Chase Pay.
If you’re adding Chase Pay as a payment method, you’ll be prompted to go to a web page to allow Starbucks access to your account. You’ll have to provide your Chase ID and password on this page.
You just need to go back to the Starbucks App, reload your account with $20 or more using Chase Pay as your selected payment method and get your 300 Stars. They say it could take up to 24 hours to receive your bonus stars but mine were in my account by the time I finished writing this article.

Agree with assessment of new Match challenge. Spend easily $70+ to earn measly points? A famous public service promotion tag line regarding avoiding drugs, comes to mind. So disappointed. Thanks for cps conversion breakdown, too.
