IHG, the hotel group that includes Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and InterContinental, has just launched the newest version of their Accelerate promotion for hotel stays between January 1 and April 30, 2018. That’s almost a month away but you can sign in to register and see your offer right now at this link.
I’ve written before about the Accelerate offers in posts here and here. I find them to be the most “fun” of any hotel promotion, because you can try and work out the best way for you to achieve the tasks provided. It’s easy for a hotel chain to launch a promotion that will give you double points, or triple points if you stay over a weekend but that doesn’t really get me to reconsider the plans I’ve already made. However, the IHG Accelerate offer is different and I’m hooked.
When it comes to time, there’s never enough of it—for yourself, for family and friends, for new experiences. Because you spend your valuable time with us, Accelerate is always working to get you more. Stay between January 1 and April 30 and get customized offers, bonuses, and the chance to earn points faster.
The customized offers are what make this promotion different than the others. Do you always stay at Holiday Inn Express? Then you might get points for trying different hotel brands. If you have the IHG card, you might earn points by using it to pay for a hotel stay. Have you purchases points before? You may get a bonus for doing so again. While meeting these small challenges are nice, the big points usually are awarded as a kicker bonus if you complete a certain number of your challenges.
The offers are different from person to person. Here’s the offer I received:
I can earn a total of 47,000 points but I could earn 25,500 of them by completing 3 of the 4 challenges:
- Staying once at an IHG hotel
- Booking and paying for one stay with my IHG credit card
- Purchasing IHG points
- Staying for 5 nights
While the 10,000 points for staying 5 nights is the largest bonus, I can complete the other three tasks with only a 1 night stay and purchasing some points. For that I’ll earn 30,000 IHG Rewards points. Not bad.
Here’s Sharon’s offer:
Sharon’s offer, while more lucrative in the number of points offered, would be more difficult to complete. While I can complete my quest with only 1 night in a hotel, Sharon would need to stay at three different IHG brands over 5 nights. We’re gonna skip her offer this time.
Here are links to see the offers other bloggers received and how different they are based on past IHG stays.
Mommy Points has to stay 4 nights to earn 43,000 points
Deals We Like has to stay twice in an Intercontinental for the largest number of points and can earn up to 53,500 points.
JT from Points Guy has seven different tasks but can earn 61,000 points by completing all of them.
Nick from Frequent Miler has the biggest offer, as he can earn up to 91,000 points if he completes all his tasks
It only takes a minute to log into the website and find out your offer. If you only meet one of the tasks, you’ll still get those bonus points for that achievement. I always sign up even if I don’t have any IHG stays planned. You never know when you might need to book a hotel last minute.
Each task has its own restrictions so I’d always click on the “terms” link at the end of each description and READ THEM CAREFULLY. Sometimes you need to book a stay after the promotion starts and you’ve been registered. Other times, previously booked stays will count. The fine print matters, so be vigilant!
Final Thoughts
I already have a IHG stay booked so as long as I pay with my IHG card and purchase some points during the promotional period, I’ll be 30,000 points richer. That’s not bad for a stay I was planning on making anyway.
