I’ve got to be honest. The Daily Getaways promotion is one that I’m always interested in. It’s a great chance to pick up some great travel deals that you won’t see anywhere else. For 10 years, the U.S. Travel Association has been running this fundraiser that features daily deals from many of the major travel companies.
This year, for the 10th Anniversary, the Daily Getaways deals are returning with over 20 top companies signing on. New deals will be released at 1PM EST on every weekday from May 6th to June 4th but there are also going to be a few added things during this year’s promotion. The biggest addition is that for each deal purchased, customers can opt-in to receive an entry to win a $10,000 custom trip to a U.S. destination of their choice. As we always say with sweepstakes, you gotta be in it to win it.
Many blogs cover the Daily Getaways in depth and try to determine if the offer that day is a good deal or not. We’re of the opinion that it’s up to each individual to determine if a deal is good or not because these offers are the ultimate Your Mileage May Vary situation. I’ve purchased things from Daily Getaways the last couple of years but each of those purchases was for a specific situation.
Starting today, you can preview the offers that will be on sale for the first three weeks of the promotion at http://www.dailygetaways.com/
Let’s look at some of the offers available during week 1. They’re offering theme park tickets from Sea World/Busch Gardens/Discovery Cove, hotel points from IHG and Wyndham, vacation packages in Las Vegas and a rental car offer from Alamo
We’ve purchased Sea World tickets from this promotion for several years. We love to visit Sea World over the holidays, as we really like the job they do over Christmas. Two years ago, we even got to meet Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.
Single day tickets for Sea World Orlando can go for up to $105 if you buy at the gate and advanced admission will usually cost you $90.50 if you buy online, at least 3 days in advance. The Daily Getaways price is $55 per ticket.
They also offer a two-park ticket option. For $75, you can get admission to two of the following parks: Sea World Orlando, Busch Gardens Tampa, Aquatica or Adventure Island. I’ll have to check this one out before recommending it because, in the past, the terms of when you needed to use the second ticket changed from the time of the preview and when the deal went live. Just a reminder to read the terms of all the Daily Getaways offers carefully before purchasing.
I’ve also purchased IHG points through this promotion. Points purchased during the Daily Getaways this year will be available for 0.5 cents each, the same price you’ve been able to purchase them directly from IHG during several promotions over the last year, like this one, and this one. What’s special about this promotion, is that points purchased through Daily Getaways are not limited by the maximum purchase amount set by each plan. So if you’ve already maxed out your limit of IHG points for the year, which is now 100,000 points before any bonuses, you can still buy these points for your account. That helps earn points if you have a large redemption in mind.
IHG is selling up to 100,000 points for $500. That’ll get you two nights at most IHG properties in Chicago (except for some Kimpton or Intercontinental Hotels). If you think paying $500 for two nights is a good deal (and in some instances, it might be), then it may be a good value to purchase points at this price. There are also many other instances where purchasing IHG points might make sense.
Wyndham Hotels is also selling points in 15,000 point blocks for $175. I don’t know as much about their program but I do know some of the value has disappeared since you’re not able to book ANY property for 15,000 points anymore (the more expensive hotels have gone to 30,000 points). If you love to use Wyndham points and the price point works for you, this is a great chance to pick up extra points that aren’t easily acquired otherwise. Just make sure you’re not paying more for the points then they’re worth to you.
So what’s the catch?
Depending on how good the offer is and how many of them are available, they can sell out quickly. The offers go live at 1PM ET each day and stay available until they’re sold out. That can happen in minutes, hours or days depending on the offer. If you really want an offer, it’s like getting tickets to a concert, or Harry Potter and the Cursed Child or Hamilton – you need to be there the second they go on sale and be ready to buy immediately.
Along with some other sales, discounts and good prices, we’re going to be listing the Daily Getaway sales we find interesting right here on Your Mileage May Vary. You can also sign up for reminders on the Daily Getaways website.
