Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- A post by Travelling the World draws an uncanny similarity between Delta Skymiles and American Advantage. Many of the same events that happened before Delta trashed award charts and went to a quasi-revenue based system are now happening at American. Does that mean American going to a revenue-based model for Advantage is in our future?
- I just wrote about how I am finally ready to get the CNB Crystal Visa card and then I read a post by Greg on Frequent Miler about a rumor the card is going to get devalued in the near future. His breakdown about the value of the card, if the rumors are true, is a great example of how two people can value a card differently based on their own situation of overlapping benefits. To the people who questioned his reasoning because other people won’t have the same cards that he does, all I can say is Your Mileage May Vary.
- With a little over three months left in the year, Ben from One Mile at a Time took a look at his march to top-tier airline status and realized that he’s not going to get there. Not even close. His realization of what that means to his travel in the future and how he was chasing status for benefits he hardly used shows why even he can see the reasons why it’s great to be disloyal.
- File this in the “I hate being right” category, I wrote why I wasn’t going gaga over the new Royal Air Maroc sweet spot because we didn’t even know it would last. As it turns out, the sweet spot is now gone for all Etihad award reservations on the airline as per this post by Gary on View From the Wing.
- Point Me to the Plane shared pictures of a new Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge livery on a LATAM Brazil 777, which looks freaking awesome. While it’s more generally Star Warsy (Note from Sharon: That’s my word. I invented it. It’s an adjective.) and less like scenes from Batuu, it’s cool, nonetheless. This plane is scheduled to fly LATAM’s route to Orlando and if I’m not able to see it in person, I sure hope that the @MCO Twitter team is on the ball with some pictures.
- Matthew from Live and Let’s Fly introduces the newest Uber conspiracy theory, they charge more for a ride when you’re phone battery is almost dead. Now I’ve called an Uber when my phone was down to 2% and the price didn’t seem any higher but that’s one data point. Even if it might be true, it shows why you should carry a portable power source; just try not to use these.
- British Airways has been suffering from some issues recently with its pilots’ union. Loyalty Lobby reminds those affected by the strike to collect their Avios and tier points for flights, even if the flights were canceled.
- Doctor of Credit posted about how Barclaycard is removing the extended warranty and price protection benefits from most of their cards. With Citi also removing price protection from their cards, it raises the question if the company providing this coverage to the banks raised their prices to the point where it was just better to take the PR hit and no longer offer the benefit. Once one bank does it, it makes it much easier for everyone to follow.
