Hi y’all! There are some awesome travel bloggers out there who posted about stories we didn’t cover. Here are some of the best one:
- The news that might affect you the most is that the travel website Orbitz announced they discovered a data breach that exposed information from 880,000 payment cards to hackers. This is for both the main website and other sites that use Orbitz’s platform for bookings. They are supposedly reaching out to those affected but it might be good to check it out for yourself.
- There was a story about how a company can turn a customer service issue into a big win for everyone. Reports came out this week about a passenger on a Southwest flight who was upset because the WiFi on the plane was not fast enough to stream her college’s basketball game from the NCAA tournament. As people do nowadays, a cynical tweet was sent to the Southwest Twitter account. After the standard apology, the story got better. The Southwest Twitter rep proceeded to live Tweet results for the rest of the game for the passenger (and everyone else following the thread on Twitter). Unfortunately her team lost the game but it shows some employees do get how customer service works.
- I wrote about the IHG flash sale for points this week and how it can be a great deal. The Deals We Like website also listed five hotels around the world where buying points can get you a room at a huge discount.
- Doctor of Credit reminded us about one of the strangest promotions I’ve seen recently. If you text pictures of Dr. Pepper bottles to the number provided, you can get a $5 UBER credit. We have these bottles in my vending machine at work so I’m curious to see how it works out.
- Mommy Points reported about Denver Airport getting an American Express Centurion lounge. AMEX hasn’t confirmed it but you can see the plans for construction that were submitted and it’s pretty clear to see what this is going to be. We spent some time in Denver airport for a layover. It’s OK, but an AMEX lounge makes it even better. Most interesting is that it will be in the terminal that serves Southwest, Spirit and Allegiant. Not the airlines you’d normally associate with a premium lounge offering.
Many writers were very focused on food this week:
- Gary from View from the Wing lets American know that their recent Bagel and Lox meal was “was an affront to all that is good and Jewish”.
- The Points Guy compared the difference between the Lobster Thermidor and Seafood Thermidor on Singapore Airlines, because inquiring minds wanted to know.
- Lucky at One Mile at a Time first asked why American Airlines meals are so unhealthy and then wrote about a major fail with his usually dependable Asian Vegetarian meal selection.
- Finally, Frequent Miler informed us that Chili’s is giving you free chips and salsa or non-alcoholic beverage every time you eat there if you sign up for their new loyalty program.
