Unlike Walt Disney World on the east coast, Disneyland (DL) doesn’t have a whole heck of a lot of hotels on its property. Nope, just three. You’ve got the iconic Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. That’s it. All three hotels are perfectly nice, but they’re definitely not cheap and you can expect to pay several hundred dollars per night to stay at any of them…if they’re not sold out.
Fortunately, Disneyland is surrounded by lots and LOTS of hotels that can fit nearly every need a person would have, varying from price, to whether or not you want a suite, closeness to Disneyland’s main gate, whether or not you want to use points, etc. But with so many choices, how do you decide?
If you do a search on the ‘net, you can find bunches of pages with “The Best 7 (or 8, or 10 or 15) Hotels Near Disneyland,” but that only gives you a handful in relation to how many hotels there are surrounding The Happiest Place on Earth.
We found a website that can help a whole lot more.
Tom Bricker, of Disney Tourist Blog, has stayed at 45 different hotels in Anaheim and he’s taken the time to describe every single one of them. On top of that he’s also given them a score in terms of distance, room size/quality, cost and amenities, AND he’s ranked them from best to worst (well, really worst to best LOL), so not only do you have a good idea of which hotel he thinks is better than another, but you also know specifically WHY. That’s a huge help because if a few dollars difference in cost doesn’t matter, but distance to the park is more important, you can make a better decision. He also includes his descriptions and scores for the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa so you can compare how he ranks them in relation to the other hotels in the area (SPOILERS! They’re not ranked as #1, 2 and 3!)

I double checked and there are quite a few IHG, Starwood/Marriott, Hyatt, etc. hotels listed, for those of you who may be interested in using points. And what’s more, he updates the list so it’s pretty much up-to-date!
Joe found Tom’s website when we were looking for a place to stay near DL when we were unable to use DVC points to get a room on DL property last year. Although we took other factors into consideration too (i.e. Joe used our Citi Prestige card and therefore got the 4th night free), Tom’s list definitely helped us decide what hotel we eventually stayed at.
There are, obviously, many more than 45 hotels around Disneyland. And, of course, you should do your own research when deciding on any hotel, anywhere, But if you want a good, solid place to begin, Tom’s list on Disney Tourist Blog is a great place to start.
