When we drive to Disney World from our house, once I set in my brain where we’re going, I’m usually on autopilot. I’m looking out for drivers who don’t know where they’re going and staying alert for new road patterns because of the seemingly endless construction going on with Disney’s roadways. On my most recent drive, I couldn’t help but notice the massive building that, to me, seemingly just sprung out of nowhere.
Entering Disney World property on Epcot Center Drive, when you cross I-4, there is now a large building on the left side. I was trying to place where exactly this was on my mental map but I just couldn’t figure it out. What is this building going to be and how would you get there?
I learned that this will eventually be a new hotel located at the very end of Chelonia Parkway, the road that goes through the Bonnet Creek Resort area.
What should make Marriott loyalists very happy is this will be a JW Marriott branded, 516 room luxury hotel with a spa, multiple restaurants, and a rooftop bar. Marriott Rewards members currently have no luxury hotel around Walt Disney World while Hilton has the Waldorf Astoria, and the Hyatt Grand Cypress Resort is just outside Disney World property.
What’s interesting is that this hotel will be located directly down the road from one of its main luxury hotel competitors, the Waldorf Astoria.
The hotel still has a way to go before it’s ready to open but the vertical construction is well on its way. The most recent announcements suggest an early 2020 opening.
While the Swan and Dolphin hotels at Walt Disney World used to be a great way to redeem points for a Disney vacation, Marriott has continually increased the number of points needed to stay at these hotels. Currently, they are both category 6 hotels (category 7 is the highest) and cost 50,000 Marriott points a night for a room.
There are no shortage of new hotels going up on and around Walt Disney World property in Orlando. Disney has several hotels slated to open before 2021, and that’s not including the new hotel opening adjacent to the Swan and Dolphin hotels. It’s quite apparent there seems to be a demand for more luxurious and business-friendly accommodations while on a Disney vacation, or at least that’s what the developers think people want.
