Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Doctor of Credit provided a Public Service Announcement about the first lesson you need to learn after you start to earn points through methods you read online, DO NOT CALL THE BANK!! I forgot to teach this lesson to my dad and he almost got in trouble with AMEX when asking why his credits for a Delta gift card hadn’t posted yet.
- Speaking of AMEX credits, Rene’s Points tested the threshold for getting the AMEX credit when buying Delta gift cards in 2019 and here are his results. Just don’t call AMEX to check on the credit.
- While I don’t usually read about articles from the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, this post from Miles to Memories about Google’s Disney-style dark ride that shows off the uses for Google Assistant reminded me of the old days of Disneyland and WDW, when attractions were always pitching the product of the sponsor.
- The Points Guy website reviewed the new Jabbrrbox locations at LaGuardia Airport. While they might be a good place to get work done in a pinch, I can’t see the appeal beyond wanting a desk to work at while at the airport.
- Lucky (Ben) from One Mile at a Time wrote about his experience cooking a four-course meal from the United Polaris cookbook. The result was nothing like I expected it to be.
- On a more serious note, Tiffany from One Mile at a Time wrote about why she can no longer recommend Google Fi to new customers and is now actively telling people to stay away from the service.
- Flying High on Points wrote about their experience watching the sunrise from Haleakala National Park on Maui. While Sharon and I didn’t see the sunrise, we did go horseback riding into the crater and might I say I DO NOT RECOMMEND doing that particular activity on the first day of your honeymoon, unless you are familiar with riding horses.
I’ll call this one, “The First & Last Time I’ve Seen Sharon On A Horse”
- Gary from View From The Wing shared a story about young love written on an air-sickness bag. Now, I can relate because Sharon and I have our own airport love story to be told, but neither of us wrote it out on a barf bag and left it in the seat pocket 🙂
- Speaking of strange things happening during a flight, Loyalty Lobby posted a story about a woman who “accidentally” forgot to remove her handgun and ammo from her bag before getting on a flight from Atlanta to Tokyo. Disregarding the question of how she got through the TSA checkpoint, that’s the biggest “oops” I’ve read about in quite a while.
- Tom from Disney Tourist Blog gave a great rundown on the current Disney rumors, including the possibility of a Mary Poppins attraction at WDW, the return of a fan favorite at Disneyland Paris.
- Seth wrote on PaxEx.Aero about Air France’s failed experiment with Joon Airlines. Why can’t executives learn that trying to tell a target demographic what they like, in this case, Millennials, NEVER WORKS!?!? Did airlines learn nothing from Song and Ted?
- I’ve been following the Mile Nerd website and was sad to see that it’s going away very soon. The “Last Posts” are a collection of posts about topics that have sat on the back burner but never were written (and trust me, there can be plenty of those). This particular one was extremely personal and emotional. I’m glad it was written down and shared with the small part of the world who will eventually see it.
- Not to end the week on a downer, did you see the video of the guy who was dragging his daughter out of the airport????? H/T to Ed from Pizza in Motion
