Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- The first article I’m sharing this week is from Tiffany at One Mile At A Time. She’s recently back from a trip to Southeast Asia that included a visit to Vietnam, where she went to see the Cu Chi Tunnels. While she seemed to enjoy her excursion, I can’t think I would feel the same if I visited since my dad served with the U.S. Marines in the Vietnam war. What he’s shared isn’t anything I’d want to experience as a tourist attraction. That being said, he’s visited Vietnam and it seemed to be a great experience for him getting to see the country in a different light from his last visit.
- Mateusz from Paddle Your Own Kanoo shared a story about the El Al flight attendant who has been in a coma for 10 days after contracting measles. While there’s no definitive evidence she contracted the disease while working, it’s a reminder to make sure you’re protected if you work or will be around people who may be infected with any preventable disease.
- John from Loyalty Lobby shared a Marriott Bonvoy promotion where you can save up to 20% and earn 2,000 extra points on booking at certain Orlando hotels through July 4th. You need to pick your hotel carefully as several of these properties charge parking and resort fees but if you’re looking for a stay in the next few months, this could end up being a good deal.
- Andy from Andy’s Travel Blog shared a simple concept in his post after the fire at Notre Dame in Paris. Don’t listen to people who say not to visit the touristy places, because those places are popular to visit for a reason. Because they’re awesome to visit. I’m glad I got to climb Notre Dame on our first visit to Paris. I’m sure my dad is glad he visited many sites in Myanmar before they were damaged by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in 2016.
- Greg from Frequent Miler wrote about the Bonyoy name Marriott has picked for its loyalty program. Did they intend for it to be different, or even annoying, to make people talk about it? Whatever the intent, I bet they didn’t mean for it to become a meme referring to being screwed over by a loyalty program like when I was almost #Bonvoyed by Frontier Airlines :-).
- Sebastian from Loyalty Lobby wrote about how British Airways abruptly stopped offering the Financial Times in their lounges and aboard their flights. It didn’t take long for the paper to respond, they are a newspaper after all, and for Virgin Atlantic to start trolling them on Twitter.
- Most people ignore taking advantage of all the benefits their credit cards offer. Flying High On Points wrote about new benefits added to Mastercard Elite cards like the Citi Prestige. If you use Lyft or Postmates often, these benefits can add up over the course of a year.
- I don’t think much of the stickers on my passport. However, some immigration agents might, like when Ben (Lucky) from One Mile at a Time entered Lebanon and still had a sticker from entering Israel on his passport.
