Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Ben from One Mile at a Time had previously written about a mysterious Qantas flight from Sydney to Orlando (via Los Angeles) in January 2020. There were several guesses about the flight but the cat’s out of the bag as Australian Supermarket chain Woolworths launched a promotion where they’ll fly 116 winners (along with three guests each) to Orlando for a Disney World vacation. Pretty cool, right? OK Publix, where’s our contest flying us to Tokyo Disneyland???? Whatever the case, I might just stop by MCO to catch a glimpse of the Qantas A380 while it’s here.
- John from Loyalty Lobby writes about the outbreak of Legionnaires Disease that led to the temporary closure of the Sheraton Atlanta hotel. Six guests of the hotel have contracted the disease and while the cause is still being investigated the hotel is not taking reservations until after September 1st.
- Holly from Frugal Travel Guy writes about an important reminder about your passport for people who travel frequently internationally. While not exactly the same issue, here’s a reminder why you shouldn’t give a young child your passport. If you ever need a replacement passport in a hurry, here are some helpful hints.
- I have some credit cards that I keep only for the benefits and hardly if ever use, like our Disney Visa and my Delta Gold American Express card. Doctor of Credit writes about how Chase was going to close his Freedom card for lack of use. Just a reminder that it’s a good idea to use your cards at least once a year (some suggest using them every 6 months) even if all you do it get a cup of coffee or do a small reload to your Amazon.com balance.
- Accord to Travel With Grant, Citi is sending out targeted sign-up bonus offers of 25,000 ThankYou points for the Citi Rewards+ card. This is just after Citi dropped the public offer by 25%.
- Nick from Frequent Miler summarizes the changes announced to Air Canada’s Aeroplan frequent flyer program. While some of the changes, like reduced fees and more liberal cancellation policies, are positive for casual users of the program, some of the advance level redemptions uses of Aeroplan rewards are being shut down.
- Gary from View from the Wing writes about the IHG Rewards program’s introduction of a super expensive top tier. At first, only the two new hotels to the program in Macau were pricing this expensive but now another hotel has been added at this price point. I hope this isn’t a trend but I fear we’ll see other super high-end IHG properties eventually end up added to this redemption level.
- Finally, Shawn from Miles to Memories flew on a United basic economy ticket and shares his thoughts about the experience. While he knew exactly what he was getting himself into when buying the ticket, it reminded me of the time we flew on United and sat next to a family (or part of a family) who unknowingly were booked into one of these fares.
