The Newest Theme Park Featuring Rides Based On Blockbuster Film Franchises Just Opened, In China

by joeheg

When I think of the best place to build a theme park featuring rides based of some of the most popular movie franchises from the last two decades, my first thought isn’t Hengqin Island in Zhuhai, China. However, when I looked at a map and found out this island is bordering Macau, the location made more sense.

So what type of theme park is this and what rides does it have you ask? This 10-story “vertical” theme park has rides based on films released by Lionsgate Pictures. Maybe that doesn’t ring a bell immediately.

What if I were to tell you the park will have rides based on the following film franchises:

  • The Twilight Saga
  • The Hunger Games
  • Divergent
  • Now You See Me
  • Gods of Egypt
  • Escape Plan

This is a short video showing concept art and some ride footage.

Here are the rides that have already opened with the park with additional ones planned for future development.

Final Thoughts

The idea of an indoor theme park is very interesting. Supposedly each floor (or series of floors) is totally themed to the movie it represents. They will also have immersive entertainers walking around each area interacting with guests, in theme with the respective movie.

While most of the rides depend on VR technology, I think everyone who’s ridden Avatar Flight of Passage at Disney World would agree that if done right, those style of rides can be very impressive.

Here’s the link for the official Lionsgate Entertainment World website. I don’t have any details on pricing because you need to make a WeChat account to look at the ticket options.
