Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- The Flight Detective writes on Travel Update about the ongoing battle to keep your window shade open on a flight. While many airline crews will ask you to close the window shades, do you have to? Particularly since you might have paid extra money just to get a window seat?
- John from LoyaltyLobby discovered a trend where booking SLH (Small Luxury Hotels) through the Hyatt website resulted in seeing much higher rates than when booking directly with the hotels. While you may not earn Hyatt points if booking direct, it may be worth saving 50% on your room rate.
- Julien from Flymiler writes that Frontier is running a promo for anyone who can prove their last name is “Green” or “Greene” – they can book a flight that departs on 8/13 and return on any date up to 8/20 and get a full refund of the amount paid, up to $400! It sort of reminds me of the airline that gave away free flights to people around a holiday if their last name was that holiday.
- While it was just recently we wrote about how other countries are warning people about visiting the U.S., this week DDG on Miles to Memories tells about how the United States has issued a warning about traveling to Hong Kong due to the current protests against the government going on there.
- I enjoyed reading the post on God Save the Points about how eating sushi in Japan is more than just the food, it’s an experience. I really want sushi right about now but I think the experience is similar to what you’ll have at any fine restaurant, whether it’s The French Laundry in Yountville or at Victoria and Alberts at Disney World.
- Gary from View From the Wing shared his opinions about getting coffee at hotels and why he refuses to make coffee in his hotel room. I’m usually the same way but we did make coffee with the Nespresso machine at the Renaissance St. Pancras and I will say that it was quite good.
- Ed from Pizza in Motion shares information about a new vacation package for those who want to visit Disney World from December 21st to 26th. For those of you who think you want to visit Disney over the holidays, don’t. I’m serious – it’s miserable and if you don’t know you’re getting into waiting for 2+ hours for every ride, it’s a huge disappointment. If you need to come that week and have the money, this package offers little consolation for the long lines during the days but does let you see the Christmas events with less hassle. Is it worth the money? Your Mileage May Vary.
- A while ago we wrote about how Taco Bell was going to have a pop-up hotel. Well, it’s open and this article from USA Today shows what it was like the opening day. I guess if you like to spend your day with “influencers” who spent the entire day framing pictures of themselves, staged food dishes or a combination of the two for their Instagram feeds, this may have been fun.
- Ben from One Mile at a Time writes about a dilemma that’s plaguing our society. The idea that it’s no longer necessary to use headphones when listening to your devices in public. No matter if you’re playing video games, watching YouTube videos or even FaceTiming (which I still think doing in public is totally weird), the lack of headphone use is appalling. Is there a way we can be a solution to the problem?
