Traveling The World, One Photobomb At A Time

by SharonKurheg

My name is Sharon and I am a habitual photobomber. I hung out at the Adventurers Club, an interactive comedy club at WDW’s now-defunct Pleasure Island (nowadays the whole area is part of the “Disney Springs” shopping and dining district) for about 16 years and managed to photobomb literally hundreds and hundreds of people taking pictures inside the much-loved attraction. I’ve only found one online so far:

YAY!!!

But I keep looking. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Around 2007 or so, Joe and I decided to take my photobombs to a new level and started posing them. Joe is really good at setting the photo up so I can make the best of my photobombs. My best are usually the ones of U.S. and, to a lesser extent, international icons:

P-BombSOM2

The gazebo where they filmed The South of Music’s “I Am 16 Going On 17,” in Salzburg, Austria

P-BombWhiteHouse

The White House (summer, 2016)

P-BombSchlitterbahnCastle

The castle at Schlitterbahn water park, New Braunfels, TX (ignore my hair, please…it’s a water park)

P-BombTDL

The entry to Tokyo Disneyland

P-BombSydOpera

The Sydney Opera House (holy crap, was it windy there!)

P-BombSOM

The gates of the von Trapp’s backyard in The Sound of Music

P-BombPiano

Cole Porter’s piano at the Waldorf=Astoria in NYC

P-BombMountains

Moraine Lake, in Banff National Park, Canada (it looks like I’m posing in front of a painting, doesn’t it? I promise I wasn’t!)

P-BombHP&CursedChild

Harry Potter & The Cursed Child, London (you guys, the show was SOOO good! #keepthesecrets)

P-BombHawaii

Kii Statues a Pu’uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park, Hawaii

P-BombNOLA1

New Orleans

P-BombMormon

One of my most favorite Broadway shows ever (I’ve seen it 16 times so far! Don’t judge. Especially since I’ve seen “Avenue Q” 21 times.)

P-BombGrCenSta

Grand Central Station

P-BombDinoCA

The Cabazon Dinosaurs in Cabazon, CA

P-BombHalfDome

Half Dome at Yosemite

P-BombGrCan

The Grand Canyon

P-BombDolly

Dollywood

And yep, that is indeed me wearing a shirt that says PHOTO BOMB NINJA

P-BombNinja

Don’t get me wrong…on some occasions, the photobomb just doesn’t work out as well as I’d like.

P-BombHwood

The Hollywood sign was just too far away to get the perspective right

I’m an equal opportunity photobomber, by the way. If an icon isn’t available, I’ll just start photobombing people:

P-BombRonMcDon

Ronald McDonald (photobombs right after eating blue raspberry ices are the BEST)

P-BombWedding

At weddings

P-BombIrelandStreetPerf

A street performer in Ireland

Screen Shot 2019-09-12 at 4.13.49 PM

Presidential candidates (sorry it’s blurry. That’s Mayor Pete Buttigieg. And I had chocolate on my mouth. Sigh.)

P-BombHairspray2

Some of my cast mates from when we were in HAIRSPRAY

P-BombDreamfinder

The writer of The Animatronicans (dressed as Dreamfinder)

P-BombHalloween

Halloween Horror Nights performers

P-BombSecretService

Secret Service workers (yes, for reals. I was singing in the choir of the Invictus Games at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports and Michelle Obama and Prince Harry, among others, were there. I told the Secret Service guys what I planned to do and asked if it was OK and if it could be posted online. They were cool with it.)

Sometimes I’ll photobomb friends (with them totally knowing it)

Sometimes they’ll photobomb me ๐Ÿ˜‰

P-BombHolland

Streetmosphere performers at Walt Disney World

Sometimes we’ll photobomb together

P-BombNowalNOLA

My friend, who I finally met after knowing each other online for a good 10-15 years, asked if we could BOTH photobomb Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar in New Orleans

And every once in a while, a friend will, shall we say, follow my lead, just for fun ๐Ÿ˜‰

My photobombs have gone so far that they’ve been purposely included in a performance:

P-BombAllInTheFamily

Singing “Those Were The Days,” from All In The Family (I sang the Edith part, LOL)

Complete strangers have ASKED me to photobomb their pictures:

File Nov 11, 3 39 28 PM

Nope, no idea who they are. But they saw me photobombing this photo op and asked for Joe to take their picture with me photobombing it. Then I asked if they could text the photo to me ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sometimes I’ll get to photobomb myself:

P-BombSharonBldg

The Sharon Building, San Francisco

And probably THE BEST photobomb was this one. As always, planned and posed, but looking great in the end ๐Ÿ˜‰

P-BombDarthVader

So that’s how I have fun when I travel…or while hanging out with friends…or when I’m at the grocery store :-). How about you?

Special thanks to Jason B., Joe H., Jeff J., Nowal J., Cathy K., Lisa M., Pat O., Catie P., Stephany R., Wesley S., Andrew S., Brenda S., Delaney S., Jamaal S., Jessica V., Rene V., Laurie W., Scott “Mongo” W., the stranger and his girlfriend at Dollywood, and, of course, Emil B. (Glenn G.), the Halloween Horror Nights 1950s greaser vampire (Brandon L.), Hildegard (Phran G.), Ronald McDonald, Scoop S. (Holland H.), and Darth Vader for taking part in and being such good sports about the above photobombs!
