Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Rene’s Points wrote about how a passenger on a Delta flight may have infected at least two other passengers with measles. Here’s a quick refresher on if you need to get a Measles booster shot to protect yourself, which I did just to be safe.
- This week, there was a once in a decade deal on flights from the US to New Zealand. Miles to Memories wrote a great post about how the hardest thing in this hobby is learning how to let these deals do if they’re just not right for you. I had the same problem when I let the best deal of last year pass me by and I learned that was OK.
- Even though we visit New York City quite often, we don’t keep up on the “touristy” attractions. I was interested when I saw the article on Travel Codex that the 102nd-floor observation deck has been reopened. I was less interested in going once I saw the price of a ticket.
- Gary wrote on View From the Wing about a story regarding Bill Murray that went viral this week. Apparently, he revealed in an interview that he once applied for a job at P.F. Changs in Atlanta Airport. I guess he wasn’t what they were looking for but I would have thought he would be more of the type to work at One Flew South.
- No Mas Coach wrote about a new trial at Gatwick airport featuring different ways to board a plane. The windows first policy sounds like with other airlines have already tried but it’s the “Bingo Boarding” which really intrigues me. Although there are lots of different ways to try to make it work – like these, Whatever the boarding order, I’ve never seen a plane board faster than our flight on Jetstar in Australia when we were allowed to board through both the front and back doors of the plane.
- There’s an article on God Save The Points on how to connect wireless headphones to wired headphone jacks, including those on airplanes. While this wasn’t the hack I needed to get my Bose headphones to connect to my new iPhone, it would help me connect my new wireless earbuds so I can to listen to the audio on airline IFE systems.
- Another iconic New York hotel has been sold. One Mile at a Time reports that the St. Regis in Manhattan has been sold to Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund. That’s in addition to their purchase of The Plaza hotel. It’s not the first major NYC hotel to be sold to foreign interests as the Waldorf Astoria was sold to Anbang, a Chinese company. We stayed at the Waldorf shortly before it closed and are waiting anxiously to see what it looks like when it reopens following the reportedly 2 billion dollar restoration and renovation project.
